I'm thinking about getting a new (to me) bow. I want something that's going to be able to fling a 400gr. arrow at 270fps+ and still be smooth. Please don't say the bowtech destroyer. I shot one this weekend and it is not smooth IMO at all.

I think the new 2010 PSe bows like the Axe or Omen should fill the bill.... Here's one done up by John's Customs in Max1 camo which looks outstanding to me,,,

My 29/60# Crackerized Alphaburner is shooting my 430gr hunting arrow 299fps. With those results it draws a smooth as anything I have shot. I am very happy with this bow.

You didn''t mention your draw length... It matters when your looking at getting speeds.... My buddy just bought a new Judge and shoots a 28" 60lb version and shoots his 300 grn arrows out at 316fps with Dloop and peep installed... Smoking fast... I know his hunting arrow was doing at least 385fps but not quite sure how heavy it was...Best thing about this hunting bow is that it has a letoff that feels almost as though your set at 90%... Best feeling letoff I've ever felt for a 6" braceheight bow shooting 300+ fps...

Man,
I'm kind of in the same boat with a 50/60 and i have a 26.5" draw to boot. If you want speed you will need to look at the speed bows. PSE X Force will do it, Hoyt Katera, Storthers SR71, Mathews Reezen and Monster series. If you also look at a Bowtech Allegience, Equalizer maxed out provided you have a 27.5" draw or shorter i believe. I just got rid of a HCA Speed Pro. That thing was smooth and fast as hell for a speed bow. Not sure if Athens will hit that speed you want but a friend of mine on here says they are smooth as silk and have good solid speed. It all depnds what you want. If it's purely speed then you are going to shoot a stiffer drawing bow for the most part. Give us some more info on your bow specs and we can help out a bit better.

to the op, whats your dl?
your loosing around 33 fps off the bat shooting a 400 grain arrow @ 60 lbs.. Depending what your draw length ... Lets say your a 28" dl.. Theres 53 fps lost.. So youd need a bow thats ibod at around 330 to get over 270.

See if you can get your hands on a Darton pro 3800. They flat out smoke even at lower #. At 61 (the 50-60 can go to 62) I can zing my hunting arrows at 300 fps on the button. They weigh 448 grains - Easton st epic's. And these bows don't bust up your wallet, especially if they are used.

An Athens Accomplice 32 or 34 could fit your bill.

The Monster is a very fast bow, my grandfather got one since he can't pull back 60#+ any more and he got a Monster w/ 60# limbs on it and it is very fast.

YIKES! That is fast.

I have a 29" DL and several Hoyt's from 2003-2008 in the 50-60lb class.

My old Supertec at 57lbs, pushes a 370gr GTXT 55/70 @ 275fps, but my 2006 Turbotec with a set of limbs that top out at 61lbs will shoot a 425gr Victory V350 @ 285fps. My Katera's come in at 58-60lbs and will shoot arrows in the 340-420gr range from 275-310fps. By todays standards, they are barely speed bows. My 53lb Vulcan will sling a 320gr CX200 @ 270fps, and it will also do the trick, easily.

270fps is a very managable speed. With a properly spined arrow, they will tune easily, and shoot a fixed blade head of the Slick Trick or Muzzy size with minimal effort. If you are a deer only shooter, look for some Victory HV350's. You can easily get to the 290's, and even though they weigh only 350gr, they will shoot through the biggest whitetail you can find, with a medium size mechanical. (So will my old Supertec for that matter).

Wow lots of answers this morning. :D

My DL is 27.5 with a D loop. I want something with a relatively short ATA also and I'm only shooting 238fps at 50lbs, so I it wouldn't take a lot for me to be impressed.

When it gets here, my Admiral FLX should be sending my 430gr arrow around 270 at 60# and 29" dl. Smooth and quiet:wink: oh, and a 31" ATA

I can get it faster but why!! Darton pro 3800 at 55lbs 28"dl with a 294gr arrow=319fps. I think with the 400gr arrow with 60lbs I was getting 304fps. My hunting setup is a 388gr arrow/tip total with 281fps at 55lbs.
