What was the fastest compound ever made? User data appreciated more than IBO.
Argue it out, curious on this one

A while back there was a company that warrantied their bows below the typical 5gpp of IBO ratings, something in the mid 3gpp range, so technically under shootable specs it would have probably been faster than a FT.

"bows..." Many crossbows beat the FT in real world conditions.

That was High Country but if you shot the same arrow in many other bows the other bows would have shot it much faster. It was a marketing ploy because they knew most people weren’t going to shoot that low an arrow weight for hunting and if someone shot a sanctioned 3D shoot they weren’t allowed to shoot that low an arrow weight.

All in the wording of the question..........

fastest bow ever belongs to Kevin Struthers. Like 588 fps. Kevin told of hitting over 600 fps, but declined to enter it as he holds the record and no sense in breaking his own record.

Have to see it . Many years ago there was a bow called a spoiler torqued down to 100 pounds draw weight and a modified arrow at the time hit over 528 fps. Then the ibo stepped in and said stop before you get hurt or killed.
So I would love to see what and how he shoots. Good luck and good hunting

High Country Archery - over 400 fps. Iron Mace, I believe, using their Black Max arrows........

If you want based on IBO - the PSE Full Throttle - if you want based on some other variable - I heard some guy shot 300 gr arrows out of an 80lb bow and got over 450fps....

Ha the old iron mace forgot about that one. Full throttle with the speed pro arrows would eat the iron maces lunch. The throttle I shot felt horrible. I like heavy poundage but 70 felt like 90 and hand shock hurt my elbow. I would take a 80 lb obsession any day of the week. My buddy bought a fx6 it actually comes close to ibo. I like speed but his FAST. His sight tape is tiny. Plus it shoots great.

Years ago Hunters Friend had an article basically saying 400 fps IBO is impossible to achieve. From memory they did the math and to get there the bow would have to be more than 100% efficient.

Haven't seen the article in 10+ years though so my memory could be faulty.

I did the math years ago, but basically if you have a square draw curve meaning that at IBO your would poundage that started full draw weight immediately with no let off or valley. Then the area under the curve is your potential energy. All potential energy would be converted into kinetic energy. So PE=KE. Then using KE=1/2mv^2 you solve for “v”. At Ibo specs, the max speed theoretically possible was like 415 fps.

The APA King Cobra MT has a 370 IBO w/ a 5 5/16” BH. If they shaved that 1/16” off to match the PSE Full Throttle I’m curious if they’d squeak out a few more feet.
A 350 grain arrow at 370 FPS produces 100#KE and I think most states require a minimum 25#KE to hunt whitetail deer. I welcome the added energy, it just gives me a good chuckle.

All things being equal Full Throttle. All companies have their R&D where they will play with cams that have a DFC like a brick and can get IBO specs pushing 380 but they would not be cost effective to produce because no one would want to shoot them. I saw Kevin Strother pick up 5 fps by putting a couple layers of duct tape on the inner cam to change the DFC slightly.

P.S. I have talked to several APA King Cobra owners and have yet to find one that has come close to their claimed 370

Wow! They’re more efficient with heavier arrows! That doesn’t equate to actually making its ibo. Let alone for their “approximate “ draw length. And yes, I’ve seen plenty of Mathews at 3/4” long at spec.

My Pse’s, hoyt’s, even my rytera all get more efficient with heavier arrows. My hoyt’s and one Pse are over ibo by a mile at your specs.

Back when I worked in a shop there was a guy that bragged about his high country and how fast it was with his light arrows. I said the heck with it, lets compare our bows through the chrono. I shot my 72# alphamax 32 with #2 cams at 27.5" draw and it was 10 fps faster than his bow was also around 70# and 29" draw and mine was drastcially quieter... Our shop had a 40 yard range downstairs with the upstairs being the retail, storage, offices, 20 yard range, and techno hunt and you could hear his bow going off anywhere in the shop. Didn't matter where he was or where you where standing, you could hear it... But he did have the fastest arrow going down range anywhere he went...
