OK, I'm sure people have tried this. I think I seen some threads about this on here. But I just was playing around and thought I would get some thoughts on this...

I fletched up some GT 22s with 1.8" VaneTec Super Spine vanes
All vanes are fletched right helical.

I tested these into a layered foam target, attempting to see which one had more rotation at 5 yards.

From left to right
3/4" offset right
1/2" offset right
1/4" offset right
1/2" offset left
1/4" offset left

I found that the 1/2" offset left had approx. 135 degrees of rotation at 5 yards... The rest were less than 90 degrees The more offset the more rotation. The "left" fletch ones rotated more than the right. I only had 5 spare arrows, or I would have made a 3/4" left.

What are your thoughts on this. Like I said I was just screwing around.

I haven't tested these at long distances YET! I am thinking about setting up a video camera and testing them to see if they whip.

Thoughts?

These are grouping about the same as unstaggered vanes @ 30 yds. So, No adverse effects, But I can only shoot 35 yds in my yard. so the long range test will have to wait. I am curious if there will be any speed loss at 50+...

Has anyone else attempted this?

Surely someone has

I'll bite.....

Your arrows look very groovy:eek:

I thought you were talking about degrees of offset to start with not staggered vanes.

Never tried that.:darkbeer:

Thanks, Limey.

Even if I don't see any benefits, I may fletch mine this way just for a conversation peice. as long as I don't see any adverse effects...:D

i had seen one guy with a similar set up, but, instead of each vane stagered he stagered one and kept the other 2 even. it seemed to shoot good but i didnt know if he did that on purpose or accident when fletching and said oh well and was just shooting them. otherwise that looks pretty neat. give us and update on how they do at longer yardages.
