An old friend of mine who's got many moons more experience in the woods than I do told me the other day that if you shoot a deer over a salt block that no other deer would come to that salt block. For those of yall who hunt over salt... feeders.... ect... is this true or does it really matter? Thanks.

 I'm still amazed that you guys hunt over salt and feeders.

Totally illegal here........unless you are baiting bears. WILD!!!!!:embara:

Here in WV you can hunt deer over bait but not turkey or bear.

Myth on the single kill saltblock though, friends have killed several deer every year over the saltblocks in their cow pasture.

Salt is not desired by deer much after spring and early summer.

This has been my experience as well, so I don't even bother hunting over them or near them. There's no point. They go dormant once the fawns are weened and the buck's antlers harden. At least that's what happens in Missouri. Your mileage may vary...

My thoughts exactly. Why would anyone want to waste much time over a salt lick? There are MANY better places to set up than a mineral lick.

Well placed mineral/salt like can mean the difference in getting the shot and deer pass by. I like to position them in funnels and stageing areas. THey are also a great scouting tool. Position them a close to thick buck bedding areas and put your trail camera on them. Early season (sept) they are doe killers. But I have had deer use them right through december

I mean if you wanna take a doe sure shooting a lone deer rather then shooting one thats ina group of 5 or 6 will keep the bait site fresh. The more deer you spook the later they will hit the bait.To the point that ya may as well not even sit on the bait but a few hundred yards away.

Deer kills

My buddies and I have killed deer within 10' of gut piles from deer killed less than 24 hours before...let alone near the same salt lick, pond, deer stand, trail, whatever.

The trick is the same as for anything else in deer hunting. Scent control, wind direction, and not educating the deer in the area.
