Freight Forwarding US to Australia

Looking for some experienced advice on shipping a bow from the US to Australia.

I am looking to use freight forwarding but I just wanted to see if there was any advice, or experiences that I could take advantage of from the forum?

Initially, I have looked into Shopmate as it is an arm of the national postal service here in Australia. However, they won't ship a bow as it is deemed a weapon (even though shipping a bow into Australia is not an issue from a customs point of view).

I am now looking at MyUS, but I have read a number of reviews about hidden / ballooning costs once your item arrives at the warehouse.

So; does anyone have any first hand experience with shipping a bow from the US to Australia? Any tips or traps to be aware of?

I have about 4 or 5 years ago. Like always I wrapped the cams good and the cable rod so it couldn't break into the cardboard. dropped it in a bow box and I sent it USPS. At that time price was around 60-75.00 if my memory is correct. Took a few weeks but it arrived safely

Yes, thanks for that, A good point. I am looking to ship a case at the same time and I should be able to, according to their website, have the bow packed into the case by the freight forwarding company and sent. Hopefully, this will account for any chance of it getting damaged.

This feels like so many moving parts with any of them going wrong and it will be an expensive lesson.

Shipped a couple bows to Australia, if you are able to disassemble or reassemble bows, I found that way
you can mark them as archery parts & also ship in much smaller box. Helped on shipping cost.
