what kind of foot pounds are necessary to take game with a bow? I primarily hunt whitetails with my bow and by each and everything I have been told, a bow is not effective past 30 yards because it wont have enough foot pounds. so what do I need?

A bow is plenty effective past 30 yards. Expecially with moern compounds. I would shoot for at least 40 ft lbs ok KE. That is good for at least 30 yards for a whitetail. Ideally you'll want 50ft lbs, and that is more then enough within a reasonable distance.

as everyone else is saying compounds are effective well beyond 30 yds. For deer usually 25-40 ft lbs is effective with a well placed shot. Here are a couple good articles with more detailed info

30 yards is almost a pop shot i thought.im not an amazig shot by any means but i practice at 60-80 yds to make those shot seem easy.a bow can only be as deadly as the shooter.some guys will shoot 100yds on elk.personally i dont agree with long shots like that but some have been successful long range.

2010 martin pantera, set at 70 pounds, or at least it has 70 pound limbs and it is maxxed out. 29 inch draw length and i do not know the arrow weight. i got them from gander mountain they are gold tip 5575 and cut at 29inches long with 100 grain field points is all i know.

should probably have the GT 7595's if you have tuning issues start there
but you will have plenty of KE to kill deer as far out as your groups are 3-4'' good luck have fun

Strive for 45# KE or even better .45+ momentum.
Momentum = arrow weight x arrow speed / 225120

You have plenty. Probably in the mid to high 70s in ft.lbs

as several have said you have plenty for ANY animal in North America.
