just curious to all what type of games or tricks you do while target shooting.

For instance, I have seen targets set up like a dart board. Tic tac toe.

We would play horse, you could shoot any way or distance you want. - For example, shooting while standing on one leg, on a chair, whith your feet in a strange distance, behind a bush, on a ladder, through a cardboard tube.

shoot ballons, plastic cups with water, apples, while they are in front of the target in case you miss. We prop them up with a stick.

Make our own drawings, use old pictures, old models that broke apart. All things that were safe to shoot at, and would not destroy your arrow. Do not shoot at pop cans, they cut your viens.

We used to have a rolling target in the shape of a wheel, you got good practice for moving objects.

Hang things from trees like stuffed animals.

We would put varmet heads on the arrows and take turns shooting at a rubber ball. The distance would always change.

And placing a kernal of corn on the target and shooting it. It helped with Aim small, miss small,,, or something like that.

So if you have done anything cool you want to share, I would love to hear about it.

We used to play a game we called Commando. The explanation on how to play is a bit wordy, but the game is simple and really fun.

To start with, I made two identical sets of targets. I used a 2X3ft. cardboard for the target face. I then divided the board into 9 squares and made nine silouettes like the ones police use for target practice. I glued one silouette in the center of each square on the cardboard In the center of each silouette I put a spot about the size of a silver dollar and in the center of that I glued a spot about the size of a nickle.

One set of targets went on a 35 yard bale and the other went on a 15 yard bale.

Everyone is assigned a silouette that represents themselves. The game starts at the far target and everyone shoots one arrow at a silouette of their choice. The ones that do not get hit are exempt from the next round of shooting. A hit constitutes any arrow that touches any part of the silouette.

The next round is shot at the closer targets. Every shooter whose silouette took a hit at the far bale is in contention to be shot at in the second round. Everyone whose silouette did not get hit will not get shot at, but can shoot at any silouette of his choice.

If anyone's silouette in the second round gets hit twice in the bigger spot or once in the smaller spot, the owner of that silouette gets eliminated from the competetion. The last archer left standing is the winner. You repeat each round, going from the far bale to the short bale until there is only one guy left. He is the winner.

The idea is to eliminate your buddy before he eliminates you, and to be the last man standing.

The game is hilarious. You quickly find out who your friends are (or aren't). To sweeten the game up, each shooter can contribute a buck and the winner gets the pot.

I can assure you that once you start playing this game, the guys are going to want to keep playing it over and over and over.

Try it, you will like.

A few years back we use to have novelty shoots all the time. We still have a couple items in storage.
One is a 8 or 9 foot 2D Grizzly bear made from f3 or f4 ethafoam. This is set out to around 60 yards. A orange dot sticker is placed on it. Depending on how it's run, a hit gets a free shoot or half the pot - 3 shots for a $.
The other novelty is a rotisserie motor a adaptor to make a Ferris wheel - spokes only. On the spokes we tie balloons - mostly this is for the kids.
Another is a older vacuum cleaner where the hose is plugged into the back. This, of course, blows out. A steel rod is clamped to the hose so to stick in the ground and point the hose up. Positioned, a ping pong ball will float up and down. One must stick the ping pong ball to win.
We also have a electric merry-go-around that holds two 3D targets. It goes fast, too fast and hasn't been used in years - the different pulleys were lost that would slow it down.
Of course, we have a couple steel targets, a pheasant and a ****. 30 points for passing through the hole, 10 points for hitting steel. We do set up a standard 3D target for those who don't want to chance the bounce point target.
