Check out this cresting I did. I painted the rear of shafts with satin finish white enamel, and then I gently chucked it in my cordless drill, and used paint pens to make the rings. I saw that the Meijer by my house has testors model paint clearanced for $ 0.50 a bottle. That may be my next experiment.
I use Testor's model car paint for cresting. It works great, then I spray a couple coats of Polycrylic clear finish when I'm done to keep from scratching all that pretty cresting.
