I just got a Mission MXB 320 yesterday. I just can't bring myself to pay $14 for Mission rail lube. I was just wondering what is a good substitute for rail lube.

I'm still using the $12 tube of scorpion venom I bought 3 or 4 years ago. Unless you shoot a ridiculous amount a tube will last long enough to forget about a few dollars.

I'm also a scorpion venom fan. Another product they have is a polymer bow string an cable lube fluid, I swear by. The mission strings are double served and this lube gets into the string. Mission also advises against string wax to prevent trigger gumming.

Dalton's string wax on the string and serving, don't worry about anything else just work it in till it's gone!!! Hard to get but best I've found.

You can get away with that on an Excal but maybe not a Mission...Depends on how much down pressure is on the rail. An Excal doesn't have that much. My Stryker Solution would just about start a small fire if you didn't lube the rail. I think Dick's sells some cheap rail lube that will work for you. The stuff looks like Vaseline if you ask me.

I forgot to mention that I wouldn't skimp on rail lube....I would do what is recommended by the manufacturer. However... Mission lube is probably very close to other brands. My Excal lube and wax says "for all crossbow brands " on the tube. Vaseline and chap stick, for example, is not a good cheap substitute for rail lube. Its not the same . It will probably gum up a trigger and catch all sorts of dust and sand. It may ruin the string and serving also.

I was talking about a substitute not the recommended products DB "it will PROBABLY gum up the trigger" The OP was asking about a CHEAP substitute for rail lube....I said a substitute could probably cause issues. I should have said some substitutes could cause issues. Anyway.... In the past' Jig a loo spray was highly recommended but it's hard to find and maybe not made anymore...CRC silicon is a good substitute for that....This may work for the OP. It is probably much cheaper than $14 dollars and many many people have used it and tested it with great results. I would say Daltons and some CRC would last a real long time and be a bit cheaper. I used all Excal lube and Wax when I did need it...still a little expensive. I'm going with Daltons on my serving only. it's Highly recommended ....my rail doesn't need lube on the Orion... The Only bow that I had that absolutely needed lube was my Stryker. My Excal didn't need too much..

A good quality bottle of rail lube lasts a long time. It doesnt take much to adaqutely lube your rail. It is a lot cheaper to use a good lube which extends the life of your string then to buy a cheap subsitute and have to replace a string or cables. $14 dollars for a years worth of lube isnt that much. Kind of the same with taking a chance of getting wax attracted dirt and gunk in your trigger box.
