Thinsulate keeps you warm; Gore-Tex keeps you dry (allegedly).

 

Thinsulate is an insulator, Gore-Tex is a outerlayer membrane that is waterproof & windproof.

One thing with Gore-Tex you need to know is that you need to wash it 5 to 6 times a year, to maintain it's waterproofing, it's a chemical bonding process.

Give Gore a call and ask questions they are very helpful & knowledgeable.

I have used Gore-Tex for years, great for staying dry & is a really great outerlayer to keep you warm in brutal cold.

As long as it's cared for properly Gore-Tex will serve you well for years.

On a side note, in my opinion, there is no substitute for genuine Gore-Tex. The Cabela's Dry Plus stuff is ok, but I don't think anything keeps you drier than the real thing. Pricey, but worth it.
