Does anybody own a “Great Plains” bow that could provide some feedback? I’m specifically interested in the 58 inch SR swift recurve. But any feedback on any of the models would be helpful too, in regards to overall build quality, performance, and customer service, etc…

Is this the model of bow that has to me the most uncomfortable grip style that bows can have with the high grip and forced thumb and index finger placement that looks even worse then what the Bear Kodiak Magum and 48 Magnum from Bear Archery have in a similar design. I would if me but this is just me, I would ask for the SR Swift Wichita model from GREAT PLAINS TRADITIONAL BOW COMPANY, simply because the model is the SR limb and better style of grip not really due to the price of the bow.

The grip of the SR Swift needs to be made to the specific hand size of the archer meaning a person with a large/extra large of hand can't use the same bow as a medium/large hand size but sometimes a medium/large can use a small/medium grip size but then an extra small/small hand often can't use a small/medium due to how most people in the smallest adult size hand are on the extra small size in gloves but often can wear a kids extra extra large in size.

When I look at the YouTube videos of them using the bows they have personally like for 3D archery or hunting, I rarely see the main two owners of the company using a bow with a SR Swift type grip, they only use that for some of the bows due to the grip style being asked for by a increasing number of archers due to few if any brands outside of Bear archery willing to make the fitted style of grip the SR Swift standard models use.

If you find this handle/grip comfortable then go for it, just I find it bad due to how I like to grip bows using more of a full grip but not squeezing the bow to death.

less pertinent info to the original and more of what grip I want.

I have a Youth Longbow at 45 pounds for my eye dominance and draw of 24.5--25 inches and the notched grip with flat back allows for the full style grip I prefer to do with bows using a notched to a Bear Grizzly style grip/similar bows. Then for recurve to me the contoured open grip like what a Bear Grizzly or old Ben Person model used is better to me as you can get multiple grips including one I use most a more closed grip in a light modified style and the hand style of the bow is not exact for a specific hand size, like for example the SR Swift Recurve needing to give your hands glove size be it between the two sizes just so you can fit the bow. In my case I am Kids extra large/extra extra large to adult extra small/women's small when I gave them the info on making my Longbow when they emailed me to ask about the poundage of 45 pounds if that was right on the Kids Longbow and if the draw was right because of the They determined the regular size they make the grip for will work on the bow for me, I am planning on hunting with eventually. They asked becuse they get adults wanting to use the kids bow, the recurve and need to make the grip better for the person's size often putting the adult size on the bow, they told me in email majority of adults buying the 24 inch bow like that with mainly the Youth Bow, a recurve are doing some kind of 2/3 to 3/4 draw not even to face for some types but I told them I am drawing as an adult to the cartilage just before the ear canal with top finger in a split draw due to my draw size getting about 24.5--25 inches on draw with a non target bow using a minor bent arm on all hunting style bows due to hand shock with hunting style recurve bows/longbows.

In case you could not tell I had an amazing time with the bow build as Shane and the other main owner Jason who were very easy to work with, it was like talking to a person who was making the bow in my area where I live and can go visit the Bowyers shop easy yes they were that accommodating.

The sr stands for short riser doesn’t have anything to do with the limb… I met Shane the owner a few times and he seems very knowledgeable and accommodating. Grip customization goes with all bows…not everyone is going to like the same thing.
Yes, but the SR does also have more aggressive limb shape as the Swift has less of that as it is modeled after an old Ben Person of the late 1950 to early 1960, This is what they added to the Swift in the Wichita SR Swift in Longcurve with the SR limb design. I also said several times if me and Just me, what I would do, as more advice.

I also let the first person know that they can ask for a different hand grip in my comments in less perinate part Because had I known you could do this with the Kids models when getting the bows I would have asked for the Recurve and had them make more of a Grip to the Kodiak Magnum on the Youth bow. This was part of the conversation when he asked for my glove size in questions when I got the Youth Longbow that is not an ASL but more an American Style Shortbow/ASS when adults get the model.

Shane also said the Youth Longbow is better for adults becuse the riser on the Youth Bow, the recurve riser is shorter in proportion at 52 inches to the SR Swift and with a longbow the riser is less an issue on the size of the bow. So I just ended up getting the better bow overall, as a change to the grip on the Youth Bow, a bow in more an SR swift would take some redesign they are not going to do, and even with a change to the bow using a Kodiak Magnum grip might not work for a bow very well for adults as the riser is going too be small still.
