New regulation for 2007-2008 in Iowa. Shotgun hunters are required to put a 12"X12" piece of hunter orange on their ground blind and visible from any direction. No distinction between between permanent or portable ground blinds. Maybe we should just run up a hunter orange flag on a pole. Can't say I've ever seen a ground blind offered with orange panels, but maybe they're out there.

Usually these things are a result of an incident....can't help but wonder about the story behind this one.

If you ever witnessed the orange militia in action you would understand.

In Illinois it is now a requirement as well if you are hunting on public ground during the firearms season. I think this was enacted last year - but not many people know about it. Here is the reg:

Digest of Hunting and Trapping Reguations 2007-2008 Pg 31

Blaze Orange Requirement – Ground Blinds on
Public Hunting Areas. It is unlawful to use or occupy
a ground blind during any firearm deer season
on public land unless at least 400 square inches of
solid vivid blaze orange material is securely
attached to the uppermost portion of the blind and
a substantial amount of orange is visible for 360
degrees.

You guys have absolutely no clue what an orange militia is until you spend a gun season in PA

I think its a good law to have. About 6 years ago while hunting public land in northern Wisconsin, I shot a doe and after following a short blood trail, I saw her laying about 30yds from me with her head up. I pulled up to shoot, and suddenly a guy started to holler "Don't Shoot!", He comes out of a pop up blind just beyond the deer and just slightly out of the direct line of fire. He was clad head to toe in Blaze orange, which exceded the minimum requirements of the law, but was totally invisible inside the blind. It made absolutely no sense to require one to wear the orange in order to be seen, yet allow one to fully conceal oneself inside a blind negating the Blaze orange requirements. An "accident" just waiting to happen.

I dont know who is more scared the deer or the bowhunters
