I live in Kansas and will be hunting for my first deer this year. I am looking for opinions on camo. Mainly I am wanting to know if I went with military style camo would desert be better than woodland?

Depends on the area you're hunting. If you're in a treestand, I'd go with the woodland. If you hunting way out west and stalking, then the desert camo might work a little better. If you plan on only using one, I'd stick with the woodland.

Neither...Go to Wal-mart and buy a set of cheap camo in a newer pattern...It's not a gimic, this stuff works better than the old bdu's I started hunting in...

A predator or ASAT that breaks up your outline would be a good choice that you could use in either place.

Military camo will work just fine, either desert or woodland. Camo is not a gimmick, it helps break up your pattern. Deer don't see the same color spectrum we do, so color doesn't really matter much. Save your money and just wear your BDU's, if you already have them. If not, go to walmart and buy some of whatever they have. Comfort is more important than the pattern, IMO.

Completely agree. Being comfortable will mean that you will be able to sit STILL and that is more important than any camo IMO.

I have friends who hunt in the military style camo and they take deer with a bow every year. Breaking up the solid silhouette is the important factor. I believe there are other patterns out there that will do this better than the military stuff, but there are also poular patterns out there that look great close up but turn into big green blobs at 20+ yards.

Well.....

The reasin for askin is I have noticed that the military uniforms can be had cheaper. I did goto walmart (wife works there) and I put some of the new Fusion 3d camo on layaway until I decide. I understand the principal of camo just want to get by and save a buck.

Whatever you do, dont bring it home and wash it up in Tide. Or anything else that will 'extend or save or whatever' colors or make them brighter. UV brightners in laundry detergent is what gets guys busted. Makes you look orange to the animals.

Camo patterns are way overrated IMO. Deer sense motion and scent more than anything. I dont see anymore deer with todays patterns than I have in the past. I cant say that wearing solid hunter orange ever effected it either. If you dont move and you dont smell, then you are nothing.
