I am just accurate enough to have dreams of winning a big national shoot which is causing me to spend hundreds of hours of my life practicing and thousands of dollars a year traveling.
ok garceau I understand now. i misunderstood how the op was talking about measuring groups. so if one was to say average 299.5 with a avg of say 56xs what would that come out to at a 10 yd group.
This is a silly discussion... Any time you talk group size someone turns it into a penis measuring contest and if they feel they don't measure up they try to use "logic" to bend the rules... Everyone has good days and bad days. Some people on here are more than likely great shots, some natural and some through a ton of practice and hard work. I bet there are people on here that with a little coaching and some sponsorship could be world class archers. There are also many that have been that good, but time has taken its toll... They are still a wealth of knowledge and a blast to shoot with. My favorite groups to shoot with are the guys that realize they aren't out there to prove anything to anyone. I guess if someone tells me they can shoot 60 yards with all 5 touching I will believe them. If they are saying they practice at 100 yards daily and have to buy nocks by the case, who am I to say they are wrong and who really cares??? The way they shoot has no bearing on how I shoot. I don't practice to be like anyone else. I practice to make myself better and only while it is fun.
1"-2" from 10-30 yds
3-4" 40-50yds
5-6" 60-70 yds
7-8" 80 yds
These are average days shooting...some days I can litterally stack em up even at 60-70 +,but most of the time this is where I'm at..
Thats about exactly what I do but with a bow hunter freestyle setup . I really want to know my level compared to others so I'm gonna go to Vegas to get my ***** kick to find out the answer .
I'll say .75... I shoot a lot and am very confident with my bow. 100 yard pie plates are quite easy for me to put an arrow in. So, between .75 and 1.25 is where I stand, depending on the day
I seldom shoot groups closer than 40 yards.
Funny thing is, my longer range groups are
More impressive to me than short range.
60 yards 3 1/2 " average , some days better
Some worse . Don't really know if it's a difference
In my concentration level or not.
I know some of these posts seem far fetched and may be...but I equally do not understand the notion that if you are really good at something you are compelled to go compete. Notwithstanding the fact that FITA type courses do not abound like 3D courses do. Find me one in WNY that is open to the public and isn't a 5 hour drive. The FITA aspect of the sport is very inaccessible. Correct me if I'm wrong. I would love to get involved.
ok I have read on here several different ways people judge measurement of a group. I think this causes some confusion when people post about there group. I for one put .25 im not sure that's even possible depends on how you measure I guess.

The way I see it, .25" is basically a robinhood or damaged arrow on every shot unless shooting 3 or 5 spots. If you are doing that, you need to to Vegas and cash in (unless you already have ).
I started shooting spots in 1959, and continued right up to about 5 years ago, when my elbows and hands started to show the wear and tear.
I shoot a bit less these days, and only shoot 3D as a practice game. Only takes 3dz shots on a really bad day.
I usually start shooting on my outdoor range at 25yds at a 35cm NFAA Hunter face. If I can't keep my first five shots in the dot at that range, I'm having a bad day, 1 3/4". Shooting back to 55yds at the 50cm face, if I lose more than two arrows out of the spot, I stop shooting. I usually get somewhere from 4 groups to 8 groups at a session. Shooting indoors, I shoot at 20yds, 35cm face, same deal.
I find fatigue can sway big on group size. Those days you go home tired but anxious to shoot groups . Then the moment comes, you start getting fliers, concentration is dulled and form is a slop. Through it all the voice inside telling you to shoot "it'll be ok" - you waited all day afterall. When Im fresh my groups are ok - when I'm tired from a long day - it shows in pulled shots and wandering POI.
I have read and believe as Ive done it - some folks will stand incorrectly - feet not squared proper then for some mysterious reason there's a POI change making you wonder if the sight needs adjustment. The next day , posture resumes and the arrows fly true. Standing canted at an angle away from proper form even if I'm
Not seeing it immediately messes my POI up.
Let's see, if you can hold .50" and under groups out to 50 yards, then you could shoot a 300 - 30X (or 600 - 60X) on a Vegas face all day long. Why aren't you taking home the Vegas championship every year.
shooting... or better call it shooting for scoring 20 yard or 50 yards or 70 meters is sooooo different you would not believe! You think because its closer its easier? nah you wrong.....btw FYI these are totally different setups as well
I shot 70 meters better score than 50....20 yards just scares me so close, need many-many hours shooting to switch mind....
