I agree that's about me too. I picked up my bow today after serious downtime (two jobs). I want to consistently nail 1" groups per ten yards or better. I am only hitting it occasionally though. Too, the moleskin on my ultra fall away rest is tattoo'd with the red from my sketching so its skewing my accuracy here too. I'm going to try a magnet on my rest to keep the damned prongs down once and for all. Having the fletching kicked on release can hardly be helpful. The rest is just better form on my part. I tend to over think shots and pull at the point of release.
I can hit quarters at 20 yards about 80% of the time. At 30 yards I am hitting 3 inch dots and past that its a pie plate until 50 yards then its a free for all past that.
After splitting shafts and destroying fletchings , I stopped shooting groups at 10 yards. I space them out and shoot multiple targets. Only time I shoot groups is 30+yds Where my chances of destroying arrows is less likely.
the 5 on a five spot is a little over 3 inches and in practice I do not shoot a 300 every time. I have never shot a 300 in competition but I have only tried it a couple of times. So I would have to say about 1.75 to 2. Now that is groups shooting at the X and not just where they land.
Now here's an honest man ^^^! I'm a little skeptical of that large number of folks who say they average an inch or better in this poll. If it's true, they should be shooting 300 60x in 5 spot on a regular basis and should be competing at the national level. Less than a handful of people at my large, very active club can shoot 300s and not every time and it's a very rare event to see a 300 60x.
Let's see, if you can hold .50" and under groups out to 50 yards, then you could shoot a 300 - 30X (or 600 - 60X) on a Vegas face all day long. Why aren't you taking home the Vegas championship every year.
also on a 5 spot the X is 1.5 inches so if you are shooting anything around 1 inch or less (because you only have to catch the outside edge) then you are a 300 60X shooter. Thats pretty good.
Here's a guy with a lot of common sense. Probably greater than 75% of all archers will never shoot a 300, yet claim sub 1" groups at 20. Individual groups are nice and build confidence, but being able to land those groups in the same spot on the target every time is what's more important. I always shoot 300's but not always x's. If I had to take an average, it'd be the 54-55x range. That said, I guess I'd consider myself a 2" shooter at 20.
Good comment bowfreak. I think the same as you. I call BS on anyone that tells me he or she can hold a .50" group out to 50 yards. Even if the guy was a pro.
I voted at .75 as a good average. Some days are way better than that thou. I can comfortable do a 7.5" group at 100 yards and usually will be better than that
I'm usually around 1" per 10yds out to 40yds, then it opens up quite a bit. I used to shoot quarters out to around 30yds, but I picked up too many bad habits over the years and can't shoot that good anymore.
I voted 1.25" per 10 yards. That's my average. Done days are better, some are worse. I agree after seeing the poll results, ain't no way these guys here are shooting .50" per 10 yards. All the professionals would be fired if that were the case. Pride.....
Any shooter could probably be outstanding at times and fallin' apart the next. My best days I can smack arrows at 30 yards and when brain dead a barn ain't big enough. When all along shooting Field I could pretty much keep my arrows in the bull's eye for the 70 and 80 yard Walk Ups of Field and Hunter. What, 5 inches? Cleaned both a couple of times. Today, I don't shoot that far, but did a test when Buster of Xs had his post. I had a 3" group at 50 yards and I can't do that near all the time, just got lucky that day is all.

I have to agree with a lot of Sonny's post as I've copied above. I do not like the average per 10 yards inference though. At some distances I shoot better than an inch per 10 yards on AVERAGE. But what does average mean to each of us, does it mean 3 our of 4 arrows, does it mean 7 out of 10 arrows, does it mean if I shoot a 2" group once at 30 yards than shoot the next group at 4" I still shoot a 1" per 10 yards? Some yardages for me seem so easy. Sometimes I seem to shoot better at 30 than I do at 20 yards but then that might be just because the target I am aiming at is different?
I would say my average would be 1" per 10 yards. On good days I can pile them on top of each other out to 25 yards but at 35 I'm usually around 3" groupings. I'm really looking forward to getting my new bow set up to see what I can do with that bow.
It takes 5 nickels for a quarter. I didn't say they had to touch.
