It goes without saying that companies look for good shooters BUT the most important thing is how the individual conducts himself. Are they going to be a good example to other archers, are they willing to help those around and represent their company as a an ambassador. Are they leading others in the sport, encouraging youth and ethically setting an example as a true sportsman. Those are just as important as being a good shooter and maybe even more important. Before one seeks a factory staff position, put a resume together listing your accomplishments, get letters of recommendation from your local club and your pro-shops. These should state your character and your reputation in the archery community. I would hope that in the mean time you have a bow you enjoy shooting so purchase a company shirt on your own and begin representing those products just as if you are on staff.

Call or email them to find out if their taking any shooters on and see if they would take your resume...If so give them a list of events you have participated in, how you placed, and anything else you have done in archery, hunting, local shoots, leagues.etc..winning isn't the main criteria they look at..sportsmanship, a good ambassador for the company.. and archery in general....participation, sportsmanship and honesty is key imo..

Depends on which company, A few of the companies who advertise heavy on this site only require you purchase one of their bows at "shooters price". I bet the Ratio for "staff shooters" on AT is 1000% higher then in the world we all live in.

First you have to get noticed and you have to be willing to let people know you , what you stand for and start on the local pro shop level. Win, win and then win some more, be up standing, PROMOTE, stand behind and exclusively use their product(s). I would say the first step when asking such questions would be to fill out your profile so WE know who we are talking to.
I guess I would ask myself first off is WHY do I find it necessary to be a staff shooter?? Is it for the title, because you believe in what your using or are you just looking for discounts. Myself I never saw the point as I want to shoot what ever I want. 90% of the people seeking them are looking for a discount and the company doesn't matter and the other main reason is it is an ego booster for them.

I have never understood why anybody would want to be a "Prostaffer"

Be active in your community with archery. Join a club and be active in it. Shoot lots of shoots, run some, be friendly and helpful without being overbearing. Think of ways to involve people who may not normally be active with archery but may be interested. Go to your favorite pro shop and be a familiar face there. Help out at the shop if asked. Try to get on staff as a shop shooter. Always represent yourself in a positive mannor. Keep a running resume and write down EVERYTHING you do concerning archery. Don't let getting turned down deter you but rather keep trying. Good luck and I hope this helped!

To the OP

Different Companies have different requirements. Can you be more specific and tell us what bow company you want to shoot for?

I would love to become a shooter for pse but, I'm not that great of a shot but enjoy shooting the local circuit in my area. I have a shooter shirt for PSE but dont claim to shoot for them. Maybe if I practice and start winning these local shoots I'll get found if not all you can do is try. Best of luck in your quest to shoot for a achery company.

I have gone through this with 3 bow companies, and it can be done the easy way or the hard way. As stated, you can just buy an Athens or you can try to make a name for yourself. If you want to do it the way of being with a larger bow manufacturer, start with the local shops and win shoots. Also, you cant be the club jerk that no one likes because then no one will want you to represent them. Remember when you are a staff shooter, and show up to a shoot you have a bullseye on your back! Everyone is trying to beat the "pro" and that can make you feel watched at all time.
