How bad is it?

Wipe it off when you are done. Then bring it home and run it under hot water.... wipe with cloth if needed

Lick it clean and get it ready for the next kill. Make sure to lick the side so you do not cut your tongue.

Dirt, blood and tallow was with dish soap and hot water. Use metal scrub pad for the really stuck on stuff.
Rust soak in wd40 and clean with steel wool. If that doesn't work use the wire brush on a bench grinder. Keep it oiled or it will rust again in a short amount of time.

A swipe of the blade on a damp cloth and I'm good to go.

Stick it in the ground a few times to clean all the fat and gunk off of it, wash with dawn and water, and then resharpen.
