i'm wondering which joint you guys prefer for the most duplicatable shots.
first joint or second joint? I'm new to hand helds. seems like second joint from finger tips makes the hand sore. how does the first feel and which is harder to do for long periods of time?

Get as much of your thumb around the trigger barrel as possible. This will enable you to trigger the release with a disciplined squeeze rather than an impulsive pull with the ball of your thumb.

If triggering your release makes your hand sore something is seriously wrong.

I wrapped my thumb completely around the trigger and tucked under my index finger (sort of making and O). Then but rotating my hand slightly back and down (pulling through) the tension applied triggered the release without me punching the trigger. It took some getting used to but worked well. Just one way.
