Thanks guys. One of the moderators had posted some off my older ones up here before, but those were lacking in quallity. I think this one's better, so I figured I'd give it a shot here too.

Starting on mine tomorrow- picked up a 6' X 7/8" X 8" hickory board and a 8' X 7/8" X 8 3/4" red oak board today. Both have really consistent grain and seem to be pretty close to heartwood.
By the way, has anybody tried aspen for a handle? I love the feel of it, but don't know if it'll hold up to much compression.

Aspen has only two main uses. Friction fires and burning, and bowls.

It's much lighter than both of those woods, which would leave your bow limb-heavy, and handle-light. Which means handshock and diffifuculty in aiming. Woods that are as heavy, or heavier, make the best handles. Not that you can't go slightly lighter, like using walnut for the hickory bow, but apen is pretty poor choice.
