Hey,

I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get bowhunting certified. I have gone online and done some looking but it looks like you need to go to a course to complete this. I was wondering if anyone in here knows how to get certified(websites, places) for me if I live in West Michigan? There are more and more states that require hunters to be certified which is great, just hard to find a place when it's not required in your state. If anyone could help me with this it would be much appreiated.

I lived in Idaho for awhile, and the only other way you didn't have to take the class was if you had bowhunted in another state, you could sign an affidavit. I know The states I have bowhunted in OK, KY, TN, GA, WA, CA, at the time i hunted those places did not requie bowhunter ed. If you check your states regs. and have bowhunted in another state maybee you wont have to take it.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not talking about the regular hunter safety classes, I want to know about getting a bowhunting certification. More and more states are requiring bowhunters to have them. I know that Nebraska is one who is requiring all bowhunters to have a bowhunting certification.

You do not need to take that class in michigan. My buddy just took the class this past weekend I will ask him where he took it. He needs it to go bear hunting in new york.

As far as I know, Michigan does not require (or offer) a separate Bow hunter safety class. Regular hunter safety covers everything you can hunt in michigan.

By "Certified" do you mean like some states where u have to show proficiency with ur equip? Such as 5 arrows in a paper plate at 20 yards? If so, Mich does not require (but should) anything like this.

If you are asking, because u are looking to hunt in another state that does require a separate Bow hunting safety class or testing, I would call that States DNR to see what the requirement is. Or call Michigan DNR (their number is on their site) an ask to be called by a Officer and they could at least point u in the right direction.

Hope this helps,

Yea it is to go to another state to hunt. More and more of them are requring hunters to be Bowhunting Certified to bowhunt. From what I have read/been told it is a two part test
1-written part similar to hunters safety just more about bows, bowhunting saftey
2-proficency test where you have to shoot your equipment at targets.

You can go online and get the first part done, just not the 2nd part you need to go to a certified place to get that done and that is what i'm trying to find out if anyone knows of anywhere in Michigan that can do the 2nd part. Since there is not anything listed about that online. I am having trouble finding a place,as you can see, because MI does not require it.

Not that I know of in Michigan, but doesnt mean there isnt anywhere. Have u called the DNR to see if they can point u in the right direction? Or call DNR of the State that u are going to and see if they can help.

Thats about all I can think of that may help u out.
