How to pick a compound target sight?

Hi guys

I've had my bow about 5 months now and I know I want to get more into target shooting and enter some tournaments sooner than later.

Right now I've got an apex 3 pin sight and I'm thinking I want to move to a single pin adjustable. But where do I even get started looking for one? I'm imagining doing a lot of indoor 20y over winter and then I want to get out to 70y and shoot 3d as well. So what would be a recommendation?

Also it seems in the discussion of target archery 3d is often mentioned separately of indoor/outdoor. Why is that?

Also as an FYI I'm shooting a diamond edge sb1, 28.5" draw with about 55#.

hha kingpin and they also make a tournament edition. Me being as cheap as possible I like cross referencing eBay and Amazon for the cheapest price possible or you can check the classified listings. Sight is pretty expensive but from what I've read was it was worth the price. You could always go with a cheaper hha sight as well. I just have the 5510 and I love it. I paid arou d 90 or so for it brand new. Shoots pretty damn accurate as well. Setting it up took an hour or so.

The reason 3d is often mentioned separate of outdoor target and indoor target is that target archery doesn't use foam 3d targets. They also have known distances. 3d uses 3d targets and have classes with unknown distances. They're different games.

To purchase a target sight, figure out what you can spend and find a sight in that price range. Very few duds in the archery world. If you have a question about the quality of a sight, just read reviews on it.

I suppose I just meant in so far as equipment setup, why is 3d often spoken of differently? Seems to me that aside from target shape there shouldn't be any difference?

I suppose I don't really have a budget. $500 would be fine if it was ~the forever~ sight. Eventually it can go on the next bow once I upgrade to a proper target bow.

I am just getting started in archery again after a 55 year break. I bought a IQ Ultra Lite 5 pin sight and really like it. Easy to set up and it helps me with correct form so each shot goes to the bullseye. it was $74.99 on sale at Amazon. I have a hunting bow but will just be doing target shooting. Too broke down at 69 to hunt anymore!!

Well, IMO, a 55lb draw 28" would call for 2 different sights between indoor vs 3d where you plan to shoot 70 yards. You are going to need a lot of elevation change on 3d so your housing size and your dovetail size is going to be different as opposed to 20 yd spots. Also, with 20 yd spots you could use a magnifier/lens and be "dialed in" as opposed to floating a pin. I really think that once you shoot both types of shoots, you will notice a big difference.

I've been using my Hogg Father with a CBE scope as a do all sight for quite a while. It gets put on a hunting bow in the fall, target bow all winter, spring, and summer. They can be had for a couple hundred bucks in the classifieds.
If I decide to buy a dedicated target sight it will be a black gold competition sight with a CBE scope.
Any Axcel, CBE, Sure-Loc, Spot Hogg, Black Gold single pin on a dovetail with fine adjustment will do.
