Back in 2004-2005, I was 19 or so. I walked into a Bow Store that I actually went into today (for arrows) and purchased my first High End Bow. A Hoyt Xtec. Today I was out pawn shopping and happened across one. I sold my original many years ago. I was able to get this one with a bow case, sight and drop away QAD rest for 160.00 out the door. I am excited to sling some arrows with it.

I just got a new Mathews V3X two weeks ago but I am interested in trying to make something happen with his old bow. Should be fun.

I still have my 04 protec . I haven’t shot it in a bit though . Those old cam 1/2s were shooters .

Been striping this bow down. Got the strings off. New ones on the way. Cleaned and Greased all the threads. Cleaned up limb pockets. Totally disassembled the thing. Still in great shape. A lot of the grease was dried up so I pulled the entire thing apart. Cleaned it up. Need one bolt and a plastic limb rest thingy that cracked. Hope it’s not to much of a bear to find. Should be up and going by the end of the month I hope.

Update. The bow is from 04. I went and ordered new strings. Vapor trail VTX. Are they good ? We’ll see.

I pulled the old strings and cables off and took the whole thing apart. The rocker arms (black plastic ) see picture *well one had a crack. Not catastrophic but I’ll replace because I have it apart. Cool.

But whiile taking apart I found every bit of grease (and it does resemble white lithium grease) was dust. I think the rocker arms cracked due to flexing on a seized joint.

I have put new grease. Cleaned it up. Just waiting on vapor trail (3 day turn around … ughhhh).

Hopefully get to sling arrows out of it this week.

Pictures a reminder to grease your old bow. My bow was full of dust.

The picture with the strings is before the pull apart. The rocker arms move freely after the grease up. I’m waiting to assemble the lower end. Awaiting Hoyts turn around on parts. I do expect to get 20 years out of this bow.
My V3X might collect dust this year. Haha

Cool project you got going on. I had a 03 Razortec and I believe that was their first year with the cam and 1/2 system. Mine did have a matching quiver by the way.

Those razor techs were cool. I remember being in the store looking at the vipertec and the Xtec on the same day. I didn’t know anything about bows. Why did I pick the Xtec ? Because the add had more dead animals with pro hunters using the Xtec.
I knew nothing. But it was a good decision.

Don't ask the dealers, unless you really know that they are trustworthy. I had a similar problem and the dealers I asked gave me false statements, that the part isn't available anymore. Probably because it's a low value item and they didn't wont to put any time in this issue. You can read about my experience with a broken limb rocker here:

My recommendation is: write an email to Hoyt's customer service. Tell them what bow you have and that you need to know the part number of this limb rocker (it's a triax limb pocket).

Be aware, that it's not the same part number that I needed. Your bow has the triax limb pockets, while mine was an earlier generation with a simpler limb pocket. Then go to a dealer and tell them which exact part you need. If he doesn't want to order it, part ways with this dealer and stick to the one that helps you. That's what I did.

I was able to get the rocker. It was a triax #6 rocker.

But what I am having trouble with is the limb locking bolt. I never did find one. I ended up getting the right bolt thread and cutting bolt to size. It worked out.

If you have a Hoyt with these plastic limb rockers keep um greased. When they seize they crack

It came together great. New vapor trail strings. I would have put the speed buttons on in retrospec but it’s not a deal breaker.
I think I will replace the limb savers with a more modern version, like the ones off a alphamax or maybe the rx3. The stock ones are hard on one side and rubber on the bottom. It could use a bit more rubber to soften the shot. Not sure which will work ???
I have it set to 70lb and it’s a blast to shoot.
To get my QAD on there and secure I had to chop off the over bar but I don’t miss it. I wanted it flush with riser and now it is.
Dug up this old magazine add for the bow. Back then, this was all the marketing I remember seeing for my bow. Look at your color options ! You could get flame to go with your 90s tattoo.

Here are some final photos. I added a Cam Hanes multi pin hunter from spot hogg. (I don’t like the individual pin adjustment, but the multi pin windage and vertical adjustment is amazing ).

Overall I’m happy with the rebuild. I have had a lot of Hoyts over the years. An RX3. A Factor 30. It definitely feels like a cousin to those.
Inside 30 yards this thing tacks. Maybe further. Haven’t had time to shoot it at distance.
Arrow I have been using is a rampage 250/52 insert/ 30 brass screw in/ 125 head. 30 inch draw with an arrow that is 28 carbon to carbon.

To recap if you have one of these old Hoyts. It’s a killer. I wish it had a string stop option.
The plastic rocker arms in the pockets crack. So order a set and keep them handy. It needs the number 6 triax pocket rockers.
Hoyt does not make the locking bolt screws any longer.
Vapor trails top end line of strings have been great on this bow . I just rebuilt a switchback XT with them and on that bow they have been great too.
Pawn shops have some gems

Still have 2 of these bows. Been shooting since I was 13 in 1987. The 2004 Xtec is still one of my favorites. Grouping past 30 was never an issue. STS used to make a side mount string stopper those old Hoyts. Mounted in the lower triangular shaped quiver hole. The worked well on those old bows...........if you can find one..
