This afternoon I had the priveledge to be visited by Kevin Young and his family. Kevin mainly came over to my shop to have me fine tune his bow for him. We had a blast together. Kevin and his son Austin got to watch how to use a Bow Press, a Medicine Stone bow vice and a Laser Tuner. They also learned how to change mdraw length modules, tie on a D-Loop, and install a peep sight that does not use a rubber tube.

They also learned how important High Quality ProStrings are important to a bow to end peep sight rotation and D-Loop alignment. :) Very soon Kevin's bow will be sporting ProStrings on it. :)

Kevin and Austin got to see how arrows are weighed in on a grain scale and then how a chronograph is used with a bow to find it's average speed.

To top the afternoon off, after we got Kevin's bow all tuned to Perfection to him, both Kevin and Austin got to take a crash Raymond's Archery Course. They both did wonderfully and I decided to award Austin a Certificate because he out shot his Dad (and he did it shooting with his bare fingers!  :) :D :p  ) Kevin will have to come back another time or two so that he can finish the course and receive his Certificate. ;) :)

Here are a few photos to show the Happy and Budding New Archers:

Today was one of The Best days I have had the fortune to enjoy and I would like to thank Kevin and his family for that! :) Archers helping Archers and enjoying each others company...that's what it is all about! :)

Way to go Granpa, I love to do this as well. I've had the opportunity to teach a couple of teens to shoot over the years and it's very satisfying teaching them something that will hopefully keep them out of trouble.

Thanks everyone! :) I have been having a ball teaching archery to folks that are interested for quite some time. I recently started teaching my 8 year old Grandson how to do Bow Mechanics. He has been soaking up the knowledge faster than I ever dreamed he would! :)

Last week I oversaw him while he completely put a bow together from parts that I had in a box. He did everything from putting the limbs and cams on clear through timing the cams to adjusting the sight to himself. :) I was so proud of him that I could have popped all the buttons off my shirt! ;) :)

I had 4 of my Granddaughters here the other day. We spent 3 days doing nothing but shooting bows. We had a fantastic time and they all received an Archery Certificate from me. :) It won't be too many years and they will be kicking my tail every time we shoot together! :)

Here's some photos of them :) :

We just started a kids program and it is a joy to watch the children shoot. We have them shoot at single spot targets on the wall and then 3D animals with balloons on the animals for them to hit. It is a 2 hour program every other saturday.

it's things like working with these kids that keeps many of us in pro shops motivated. seeing those smiles when they start hitting that x.

i had the priveledge a while back to work with 3 brothers from the age of 8 to 13 and got to spend the whole weekend with them. we set them all 3 up on saturday and then i invited them to our 3-d club since we were having a tournament the next day. i made sure the club put them with me so i could work with them some more and show them how to play the game.

they were all 3 so polite and trully wanted to learn.

the next weekend they came in the shop with a real nice thank you card that had pictures of them and me at the range glued to the inside of it.

i have that card taped up on the wall right above my desk next to several state championship plaques, and to be honest, i treasure that card more than any of those plaques.

trust me on this guys, if you really want to experiance something totally fullfilling, work with some of these kids. they are the ones that make us feel special.

grandparichard, keep up the good work my friend. you are an asset to this sport and these kids.
