I wanted to cry...

I couldn't believe my ears. I heard a shooting buddy of mine arguing with his wife about buying a new bow that he really needed. She was really on his case about it, but he stood firm and held his ground. No matter what she said, she still couldn't convince him to go right out and buy a brand new bow that very day.

If my wife ever spoke that way to me, I would be out the door before she finished her first sentence. (On my way to the nearest pro shop.)

Good Afternoon Gentlemen....

WOW....Very interesting comments and perspective so far. If I may .........

I see a man who loves archery but also loves his family and respects his vow to take care of his family first. GOOD MAN!!!

It sounds like his wife is supporting him in his justification and decision to go get it right now, nothing more.

If they have a good marriage, and their budget can afford it, I am sure he will get the bow in time without any consequences.

Let's be sure of the proper wording.....was that NEEDED or WANTED a new bow?....there is a big difference.

Boyyyy... some of you must have had some "rough rides in your past".

"PREGO"....It's in There!!!!

Lucky it is not a matter of need or want it the fact is she was telling him to go and buy one. Most of us don't need a new bow but we buy them anyway.
One lucky guy

If the funds are there my wife would have told me the same thing. A good woman is hard to find. Sound like a very lucky man to me.
I can't believe it...

I work retail in the sporting goods world and can't tell you how many times I hear the wife give the green light and the husbund stands there and goes " I better think about it" WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY? Is what I'm thinking!!!!!!
Kids dont only have to have new shoes. They have to have "THE NEW SHOES". The ones that cost more than you make in week. Plus they have to have the designer everything. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Nice to see someone being responsible!!!

sure he gets the bow today and she goes out and gets a couple carrots the next day.........the ones that start with a "k"
I offered to buy my husband a new bow for Fathers Day. He said all he wanted was me.

Can you believe he didn't want the bow?

This is exactly why I plan to buy as much archery equipment as I can before I even find a new girlfriend, not to mention a marriage :D
That's my plan as well, but I also need a new truck, boat, etc.... guess I won't be getting married for awhile.
Had he been doing a little of this :darkbeer: :darkbeer: :darkbeer: :darkbeer:
before he talked with her!
That sounds like my wife. She's the best. We were at Sportsman's Warehouse last night and I was looking at some new shotguns, because I'm trying to switch all my guns over to left handed now that we have the funds. Long story short she talked me into buying a Benelli Super Eagle II while we were standing there. Left handed of course. I can't wait to get out and kill some ducks.
There used to be a guy at our range would try and get people in trouble with thier spouses. One day he tried that with my mother, told her my father was really liking the new shotgun he had bought the day before. My mothers response was "He only got one?" :)

Right now, even if I could get a new compound today I would not (however, a new "traditional" recurve - I would be on that in a fraction of a second). I like my current bow, am used to it's feel, and have yet to find one I think feels even slightly better. I would rather spend the money elsewhere if it is to be spent (new arrows, cooking supplies, a new computer, or a few other things). I'm definatly not against spending money, lord knows I can go through it like it grows on trees, I just do try and be careful about where I throw it. So I suppose there could be a variety of reasons for the "no", some that even male sense.

At the least, great for him. It's nice to know that your signifigant other is a person who cares for you. Obviously she trusts him also - good setup.

I'm with Sagecreek on this one. Even if my wife told me to go and get a new bow, I would stop and think about what else my whole family NEEDS before I go and get a new bow I THINK I need. I am all for getting permision before making abig purchase like a new bow, and it is great that the wife understood that he might benefit from an upgrade. but if my family were in teh same position, I would first think about how much of our already TIGHT budget it would eat up and what everyone else would have to do without so that I could get the bow, i.e. shoes, pants, doctor visits, food, heat, etc.

Buy used! Nothing stays new unless you never shoot it, and even then it becomes obsolete!
Let me get this straight. He was giving approval by his wife to buy a new bow???

And He didn't!!!!! What did he hit his head on:chortle:
New bow

No one has to have a new bow.

Archery is an option, which I appreciate, but if the family budget is tight, archery is a distant fourth or more.

I think your friend is selfish and shouldn't put a new bow between him and the relationship with his wife.

New bow are very cold in bed.
