Is there anything to this chart when choosing an ILF riser and limb length for your draw length for a hunting bow?
It seems it’s to show efficient set ups for different draw lengths.
What I have read was it allows the recurve limb to uncurl at the proper length.

I would say it is probably mostly accurate in most cases. String pinch and stacking for those with long draws will be more pronounced with shorter limbs and risers. But like any other bow, setup matters, a more extreme or shallow limb/riser angle will change feel, or if you have some of the recurve limbs with the extreme recurve to them. Then materials will impact the feel as well. You could make two 54 inch bows that will feel completely different.

I have a 19" Satori riser and while I was at 3 Rivers Archery attempting to purchase a set of Uukha Gobi limbs, I shot the mediums at 45#. They were smooth, but the S-Curve of the Uukha limb design was not opening up and therefore I was not getting the benefit of the speed and "felt let-off" of the limb. I tried the short limbs and it was very obvious that I was using the correct limb length with my 27" DL. 💯

Most charts are a reference point and/or starting point. The above chart is similar for me and my draw length. The 19" Satori riser and short Uukha Gobi limbs make for a 60" bow, but it shoots great and I shoot it very well. :)

Oddly enough, for the 17" Sektor riser and extra long DAS bamboo core limbs, at 45#, does not match up with the chart. Again, I tried the longs, but it didn't seem to fit me and/or my style of shooting.
I shoot 3 fingers under and string walk.

Definitely something to it. In fact if you buy super curves from either Border or Morrison they will match your draw length to the limb/riser combination. It is a wasted endeavor to shoot a super curve limb that is too long for your draw length for the reason you state -- the curves opening up. Too long a draw for shorter limbs (again super curves) can damage the limbs.

I can see where that scale could put me on to the optimal limb length for my draw length. Although other things can come into consideration like comfort and stability of the bow, but for my purposes for a compact hunting bow I think this scale is helpful.
