I currently use an Index Finger Release and am looking at the possibility of using a thumb release. What is the difference between the too releases?

I can get a more consistent anchor with a thumb release. The thumb release will encourage you to get your elbow up.

It's like anything else, it's what ever feels better. It's more comfortable for me to draw with my fingers using a T handle thumb release. I don't like the feel of a wrist strap pulling on my wrist while drawing. Also, for hunting, I like that I can clip the release to my d-loop.

Hold your hand out in front of you and flex your index finger like your firing a index trigger release. Notice how much movement you have across your entire hand.

Now do the same using your thumb. There is a notable difference with a lot less movement and flexing of muscles & tendons.

While both types of releases can be "punched" a thumb release is much easier for me to fire using back tension than an index finger release.
