Hello, I need an indoor target to shoot at about 5-10 yards...to blind bale for the most part. I do need one that the arrows will NOT pass through...any suggestions? thanks E
Get a really large cardboard box.
Fill it with towels, plastic tarp material, plastic grocery bags.
That's option 1.

Option 2 is to make a compressed layer target (homemade).
Take a 2x12 piece of lumber.
Cut it say 36-inches long. You will need two pieces.

Drill a hole on the front left corner, say 1.5 inches away from the corner.
Drill a hole on the rear left corner, say 1.5 inches away from the corner.

Dril a hole on the rear right corner, say 1.5 inches away from the corner.
Drill a hole on the front right corner, say 1.5 inches away from the corner.

Buy some 3/8th inch threaded rod (30-inches long).
Buy some 3/8th inch fender washers (large diameter).
Buy some 3/8th inch nuts.

Now, get some carpet scraps.
Cut the carpet scraps 11-inches wide.

Measure the space between the holes on you 2x12 boards.
Let's say the space between the boards is 32-inches wide.

Cut the carpet scraps 32 inches long.

Stack the carpet scraps 24-inches high
between the bottom board and the top board.

Feed the threaded rod through each hole in the corners of the boards.
Add the fender washers and then the nut on both ends of the threaded rod,
and tighten tight to compress the carpet.

By adjusting the pressure on the top and bottom boards,
you adjust the compression on the carpet scraps.

You can adjust how much your arrows pass through the carpet scraps
and how difficult to pull your arrows.

Here is a picture by WilliamsTD of a large version of a layered target.
He used 1/4-inch thick sheet foam insulation.

You get the idea.

In an apartment I would agree always better to be overly careful

Nuts & bolts that is one real nice target you have shown us. Easy enough to make.

That is probably the best picture I have seen of this style of home made target.

The 1/4-inch thick sheet foam insulation is blue
if its made by Dupont or it's pink if its made by Dow.

Some folks make the same thing with carpet scraps,
but that gets really heavy very fast. However,
the carpet versions can last years. Putting the frame
on wheels is an excellent idea.

I dont think I would be shooting that thing indoors not an apartment anyhow. As good as a shot you may Stuff Happens. That arrow could kill someone up/down left or right, you just don't know where the people are next to you. I know somebody who shot in their house and missed the target and sunk the arrow in his bed (wife was not very happy).

I just would not do it

I shot at the Michigan State Championships way back in the early 80's. The club holding the tourney had this type of setup, but they used corrugated cardboard. It seemed to work really well, the arrows stopped, were easy to pull out, and stayed straight in the target, unlike excelsior <sp> bales where the arrow "cocked" when it hit the target. When arrows started to pass through they just tightened the nuts a little. When the cardboard wore out, it was cheap to replace. I have been contemplating making one for home.

Shot Trainer...don't blind bale in an apartment

E-force:

Blind baling inside an apartment is a bad idea,
as several have mentioned.

The home made target is really intended for inside a garage,
where you are aiming away from a living space.

Please consider the following shot training aids
where you do use your bow,
but you do not use an arrow.

These would be safe inside an apartment for blind baling practice.
