Hi all
Im wondering with the melt on insert glue, does it have to be an archery specific one?
A store near me sells "hot melt" glue. They say that they use them on fishing rods.
Any suggestions on this? Most places that are archery specific are closed over the christmas hols, and I really need to go shooting this weekend!!!
Thanks :D

I've been using arts&crafts low temp hotmelt to glue nibbs in all carbon arrows for several years. As long as the shaft is clean and you check all points w/pliers after glueing, you won't lose points. They seem to set better if you don't quench them. Any that turn after cooling, redo. To remove, just stick the arrow in boiling water for about 30 sec. With this glue, there is no risk of damaging a carbon shaft by overheating it.

for the past couple years, i've been using loctite red grade(the liquid is red colored) in both carbon and aluminum shafts. it works excellent. i haven't lost an insert ever with it and they come out with just a little heat. once glued they are good to go in about 20 minutes.

The Easton hot melt works well for me. The Bohnning FerrlTite, which is a darker gold than the Easton, operates at a higher temperature and is fine for aluminum shafts. With carbon shafts, it seems to be to stiff and thick at the temperature limit I try to stay with.

I have no experience with this, but the arts and crafts hot melt is very low temperature and I would be afraid of the heat buildup due to friction of the arrow in the bale. But then they apparently cool sufficiently before you can pull them.

Are you using the holt melt glue for carbon arrow inserts too? I have read some negative feedback on that, but I have yet to try it. Seems like a good idea that enables one to tune the broadheads. Has any of you tried the hot melt like Bohning? What procedure do you use?
