What counties would you guys rank for chance at harvesting an Iowa trophy deer? I personally think Van Buren, Marion, and Monroe county have been the best over the past few years. Just interested to hear others input...
My buddy knows a guy in Warren county that gets really nice deer every year. But he owns his own ground and they let the small bucks go. The blue tongue that went through a few years ago really decimated the large deer but they're coming back slowly.
I can tell you which county is probably the worst: Kossuth. Low deer numbers and not a lot of huge bucks, unless you have access to good private ground.
Any where NE, E, SE, SC, SW, W is pretty much good. Central, NC and NW not so good due to lack of habitat. Access is a problem - not like you can just pick a good county and go hunt there any more. What little public ground there is is so-so and most all private ground locked up.
