I had my garage broken into abot 2 years ago and got my nice hoyt bow stolen and was in the market for new bow. I was looking for a used mathews for around $500. My brother had a Bowtech Tomkat that he never used and asked if he wanted to sell it. I gave $150 for the bow, 6 carbon arrows with broadheads, rest, sights, etc. Granted its no Mathews or high end dollar bow but for $150 i couldnt pass it up. It has the binary cams. I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with them. It seems pretty quick i can use one pin up to 30 yards. I just wanted it to hunt with. i was wanting to replace the grip but it looks likes its glued on how do you get it off? It also says #60 on the limbs but it seems more like 70. If it says #60 is that the max? Sorry for all the questions i was just wanting to know more about the bow.

i shot the tomkat in 2008 (the last year they made it) and really liked it, and that is one heck of a price that you got it for, too. As for the handle, you can email bowtech and they will tell you how to do so

The tomkat is a decent bow and for $150 it's a great bow. I don't like the grip on them either but you should be able to replace that (never tried it though). It also has smooth and speed mods available which is nice and the 8in brace height is also nice. its not the quietest bow and there is some buzz after the shot. Just go out and shoot it a lot and have fun. and the 60lbs limbs is the max which is enough to kill a 5x5 bull elk BTW.

Good bow! I had one and killed many animals with mine and it was a single cam back when the Tomkat first came out! If you practice the grip is no issue! I would recommend a String Stopper for about $40 - $50 to pick up some speed and quiet the bow down! Congrats on a good bow! Trust me the string stopper will kill the noise and buzz if you have any.

Good bow for stalking as it is only 3.8lbs. Here are the specs:

IBO - 31.75
ATA - 31.75
Brace - 8.50

Should be a very easy bow to draw and forgiving with the 8.50 brace height. That is the highest brace I have seen on a bow. You can put a WTB on the AT classifieds under general accessories for 70lb limbs. That will give you a little more speed. You may have to destroy the grip to get it off. I would suggest replacing it with a wrap, like the tentacle wrap (http://reviews.basspro.com/2010/95336/limbsaver-tentacle-wrap-insulator-wrap-reviews/reviews.htm). Costs about $15 but keeps your hands warm and you can decide on exactly how wide or narrow you want the grip.

You got a great deal - the bow listed for $549 in 2007.

Good shooting,

Bob

It is a great bow and that is a great price! I have shot an 08 model when they first came out because I was considering upgrading from my first bow! The bow shot nice, has a great back wall, as most Bowtechs have that I have shot, and the speed that you should be getting from this bow even with 60# should be just fine. I have an 08 Guardian with 60# limbs maxes right over 60lbs and it makes the bow so nice to shoot and I had a complete pass through quarter away shot this year on my deer with no problem....I would def. recommend a string stop as said earlier.

That is what i currently shoot, first bow so its really all i know. I paid $400 for the bow set up just last year. I have the 70 lb LH version. I would def recommend a string stop, i used the limbsaver one and it worked wonders for the bow. It is extremely quiet now, shoots fast, very light, and smooth drawing. I went 2/2 on whitetails this year with 2 pass throughs using 100 grain slick trick magnums! Great bow, esp for $150.

I owned one and shot it for tow seasons........killed several deer with it, and shot it all summer long for two years. SOLID bow, for the price, as good as it gets. String Stop is a needed add, it will make a lot of difference in the noise. If I could find one for 150.00 I would buy it in a heartbeat.

You will enjoy that bow a lot.

I had an 2006 Tomkat... Awesome little bow! I originally bought the bow at the time because it went to 31" draw and was a shorter ATA for hunting. I loved that bow, shot a couple hogs at 50 yards and had a 5 pin sight set-up and dailed in at 70 yards. I liked the grip on mine because it was narrower than most others I had shot. The grip did come unglued one summer when I was shooting outside alot, but after reglueing it I never had a problem after that.

You got a great deal on your bow. Enjoy it, it should be a great hunting bow for you! I passed mine on to a buddy and he as been shooting it for the last couple of seasons and loves it too. His first week in the woods with it he was able to take a turkey at about 45 yards! Great bow, cant say anything bad about it.

As far as your question about removing the grip.... You should be able to heat up the glue with a hair dryer and remove it. Shrewd and several others make replacement grips for bowtechs

I love mine. Kept that instead of the Bowmadness. Great drawing bow with decent speeds and a hard wall. Great valley too. Take the goofy rubber grip off. I customized mine with a piece of leather and wrapped it up tight with sinew. Killed my first archery mule deer with it this January and hope to do it again this coming January. You got a good deal!

Awsome bow. I have a 07 with speed mods and I couldn't be happier. I did some upgrades by adding a cabella's string suppressor system, bowjax monster jax to the limbs and wood side plates made by Bob at Git-A-Grip Custom Bow Grips. It's a fairly quite bow. The best part about the Tomkat is its overall light weight and forgiving brace height. You got a steal for that price. And if you ever end up selling the bow you'll definitely make some money of off it.

of #70 limbs but cant find any. What do you think the speed with the stock #60 limbs are with 29" draw. The ibo speed of the bow is 308-315. I may not even mess with the #70 pound limbs it seems like it shoots pretty quick with the #60 limbs. I was gonna use mechanical broadheads and want to make sure i have enough kinetic energy to use them with the #60 limbs.

The TomKat, is a great bow for advanced archers with a DL longer than 30", or beginners with a DL longer than 28".

One thing you should know. Not very many arrow rests or sights, have enough windage for the entire 05 Bowtech line-up, and to include the 06 Tomkat.

Your center shot, is going to be about 1.5" away from the riser.

Bowtech realized the problem in 05, and changed the limb pockets on the 06 bows. Except for the Tomkat.
