i was in your boat a few weeks ago. i decided to try a "fanny" pack. i think im going to like it a lot better, especially when carrying my stands on my back. (i always knew my grandma was on to something lol)

stay with a backpack i used a fanny pack for about a day lol i carry pop and stuff with me and my pack probably weight about 5-8 lbs the problem i had was the pack would sag down and it would push against my pants making them want to fall down so i ditched the pack and went back to the backpack. one thing i have learned from a backpack though is when you find one, make sure it has a strap on the shoulder straps that you can connect across your chest, it wont let the pack fall off of your shoulders, but thats just my opinion

I've been using one similar to this for years. It works well when carrying my lone wolf trees stand on my back.
