Has anyone tried out the new Kodak Playsport or Zi8 video cameras yet? i was considering getting one and wondered just how good they are. I was wanting one for family videos to replace the bigger camcorder and also maybe the occasional archery/ hunting experience!

i have the playsport and it takes nice videos as long as you aren't real jumpy with your movements. it is very easy to throw in your hunting pack and shoot some neat videos. i film my hunts and i mostly wanted the playsport to take quick videos when i didn't want to use my actual camcorder. the selling point for me was that the playsport seemed more rugged and it is waterproof and actually submergeable up to 10ft.

I purchased a playsport for my parents for christmas and they love it. They've taken it snorkling and fishing. They're not the most tech savy and use it with no problem. I love the durability of the playsport but the only worry I would have for using it hunting is the very limited zoom.

I was using a Flip camera and recently sold it to upgrade to the Playsport. Things I like about the Playsport: Waterproof, durable, easy to use, and you can use a remote! I film all of my hunts and the Playsport is great because you can set up a second camera angle. I normally shoot this at myself so that I can see exactly what I do when the animal is approaching. It has forced me to watch myself and TAKE MY TIME! The only thing bad about either one of these models, the zoom is very limited and they are very lightweight. If you want rock solid footage you need a monopod or some other device to help add stability. Zacuto makes a good handle that will screw into the female port on the bottom of either one of these cameras.

Good luck!

THis Camera IS Awesome For thE OUtdoor Industry! Definalty two thumbs up on this one! PS The Remote Has About a 15-20 yd range Which Is Awesome For Second Camera Views!

I have the play sport. Lots of fun. Took it snorking, fishing, down water slides. Great hd video, but I wouldn't video a hunt with it. I used it last spring during a turkey hunt. The zoom is bad, sound is ok, but this camera is not meant for long range zooming/ filming. But its fun to use when on a family vacation. Quick and simple use, point and shoot. FYI it sinks too, fast.

I bought one a couple weeks ago, I wasn't expecting much considering the price. I was quickly impressed by the video quality. I'd say better than my 5 year old dvd camcorder that cost 5x as much! Here is a short video I posted on youtube of some "target practice" you really need to click on the
720p setting in the lower right corner of the youtube screen and then click the pop out window to see it at a larger view. The 60 frames per second is nice for slowing down the action, as you can see here.

sorry i'm late for the party, but i have the Kodak Zi8 and it's great! it's super cheap and the 720p 60fps shoots super smooth. The only beef i have with it is the battery life.. But other than that, I would definitely recommend it

Have a Playsport - use it for POV video of hunts with an "Insane Archery" bow mount. No optical zoom (real zoom) but great HD for treestand videos within 80 yards for sure. No worries if it starts to pour... I think the GoPro hero is a great camera also for this purpose.

Unfortuanately the Zi8 is no longer being manufactured. The new Playsport Zx5 has some upgrades that I will be writing about after further testing this weekend. One is, it has 2 hour battery life. It is also slightly lighter at 4.5 oz. More to follow on Monday.

Thanks for the endorsement! I too use the older Kodak Zi6 and the 1st generation PlaySport. I truly believe there isn’t a better HD camera on the market at the price range of the PlaySport. There are several videos on the InsaneArchery website http://www.insanearchery.com/videos.html that were recorded using the Kodak PlaySport camera attached to a bow using the InsaneArchery camera bow mount… it’s truly a winning combo for those looking for a cost effective way to self record your hunts.

I was about to buy the playsport and as of monday April 11th 2011 office max has the zi8 for $79 which is $100 of the price,I know its not waterproof but am told that it is a upgrade from the playsport??????? either way you cant go wrong, It is still on sale because I just sent a friend up to get one and he did, next step is to get a mount for my bow
