Well, as the title says, that's my issue. Anyone have any suggestions for how I could remedy this?

Can you move the stabilizer? On the Leverage stands that I use I can move the stabilizer bar up or down ladder rungs to adjust for circumstances.

Otherwise, make sure your platform is level. It's tough to do by eye and if it's not it might be that the ladder is too far from the tree. Take a level (the longer the better) and climb up high enough to check the platform, you should be able to have a buddy hold the stand or use a long ratchet strap to secure it enough for this. I like the platform dead level front/back and left/right but tipped half a bubble back toward the tree makes them feel very secure.

My iPhone has a level that would work too, but the big one is tough to beat.

Sounds like you got a bum tree. But if there is no other tree to move to you have to do what you gotta do. I've used tree limbs with a "V" in them as a brace to the tree base and ratchet straps to draw it in nice and tight. Believe it or not, the wood of the tree makes less metal sound when asending. Your situation is not hard to remedy with a 2x4, a notch cut into it and a couple ratchet straps. Done it a million times,,,infact, just about a month ago. Ratchet strap fan here for sure !
