Do we feel in the future we will see a time when we use lazor sights.

Set the sight for the distance and place the dot on the target.

They actually work well. No peep.

If you have the form of a God .......

it won't shake all over the place.:embara:

Daniel, there around ..... have been for about 10 years now.

Lasers are illegal for hunting in most states, and completely here in Ontario, and with today's modern sites etc. would they really be more accurate ?

If you're talking about use in hunting, it's illegal in my state.

If you're talking about use in target shooting, I'm with PintoJK. I think it would shake way too much.

Also, it would limit you to 20 yards or less. Laser sights suck past that even on firearms.

I think its most due to our status as being "primitive weapons". Although modern bows are far from primitive....a lazer isn't even remotely primitive.

A few guys I work with use them on their duty weapons. Bobmuley has a good point they aren't really effective at any distance especially during daylight. I personally think they are more of a psychological weapon than anything on a pistol, no one likes to see one of those little red dots on their anatomy:eek:

Believe it or not, it is illegal in Ohio to use them on a bow, but not a gun. I believe, it is because of the slightly earlier shooting times and they feel you could "shine" deer with them.

If they were allowed, I actually think, it would cause more "slob" hunters to join the ranks. Unless it is a really strong laser, it does very little good after sunlight.

I think they're illegal for hunting in Texas. "Any device that shines a point of light on the target as an aiming device" or something like that.

You guys are right. Slight right/left torque on the bow handle will displace the laser dot a bunch even at 20 yards. I tried one 10 years ago and it's been in my archery junk drawer ever since.

However, reflex (red dot) scopes work great on bows and are legal in most states. I use the Zeiss Z-Point and love it. My eyes are bad and can't see through a peep in low light conditions.

Have to dissagree

I have shot my buddies in bright sunlight at 30 yrds atleast. Very easy to see. Of course you have to have a clear path to target.

He disigned it and bulit it himself.

They do work because he has used his many times with good results.

Why would it be illegal? Todays sights all have lights on them.

Our state laws forbid any device that casts light on game. If a sight light just shines on the pins, then it's OK. But, if it shines light on the deer, then it's not OK.

Definitely illegal in Texas-

Artificial light of any form that casts or reflects a beam of light onto or otherwise illuminates a game animal or bird may not be used as an aid to hunt, except that battery-powered scoping devices that project a light or dot only inside the scope and pin sight lights on archery equipment are legal devices. Nonprotected nongame animals and fur-bearing animals may be hunted at night with the aid of an artificial light on private property. If hunting at night, please make a courtesy telephone call to your local game warden.

Read again......"any device that shines a point of light on the target" Big difference from a light that brightens the sight. I don't know if I've got the exact verbage right from the TX reg book, but I'll see if I've got a reg book laying around here somewhere....:darkbeer:

Any laser that is bright enough to be seen in bright sunlight at a distance without magnification is probably strong enough to permanently blind. What was the power of the laser? And what color? A 5mW laser can fry an eye over-easy with a very brief contact, a 10 mW laser will blind you before you know it happened. Depending on the wavelength, power to brightness will vary.

I think that Deezlin is right, the problem arises where the light could be used to blind the deer or cause it to freeze. Regardless, it would be pretty cruel to use a sight that could blind the animal without you ever getting or taking the shot.
