Some of the tip protectors either don't stay on the tip and keep falling off or don't last.
I've had good luck with these rubber tip protectors, from 3 Rivers Archery. They'll fight you when putting them on, unless you fill them with rubbing alcohol first, then dump it out and it'll slide right on easily. The rubbing alcohol acts like a lubricant and dries out quick after it's installed. (y) I've had several of them and they last for several years.

I had a friend whose favorite bow had to be retired. The string grooves wore so deeply that soon the tips would have fallen off. If you catch this sort of problem early enough, there is a simple fix. Use some slow drying (24 hr) epoxy. It will soak in without the need for any big build up. The grooves will last indefinitely and at worst, the procedure might need to be repeated.
