Some of the tip protectors either don't stay on the tip and keep falling off or don't last.
I've had good luck with these rubber tip protectors, from 3 Rivers Archery. They'll fight you when putting them on, unless you fill them with rubbing alcohol first, then dump it out and it'll slide right on easily. The rubbing alcohol acts like a lubricant and dries out quick after it's installed. I've had several of them and they last for several years.

Not the same thing, these go on the limb tip and then the string goes over the top of the protector.

 

I had a friend whose favorite bow had to be retired. The string grooves wore so deeply that soon the tips would have fallen off. If you catch this sort of problem early enough, there is a simple fix. Use some slow drying (24 hr) epoxy. It will soak in without the need for any big build up. The grooves will last indefinitely and at worst, the procedure might need to be repeated.

 

Sounds like a solution looking for a problem. Tips should not be wearing under normal use and with proper care.

 

That might be true for modern bows with phenolic reinforced tips. Many older bows had only wood or no reinforcement. With prolonged use, strings can cut into the tips.

 

I did see a you tube video where a Boyer replaced the tip overlays with phenolic, and they looked original.

 

Well, I have MANY recurves 50-60 years old that have wood overlays or no overlays at all. Thousands of shots, no wear. Like I said, they should not wear under normal conditions. YMMV.
