I'm looking for crossbow sight options that are legal in idaho. Idaho states that (even if handicapped) you cannot use a sight with any magnification. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Vortex Spitfire 1x Prism red/green dot on an Optimizer. This sight cam be adjusted to your vision like a scope and has a etched reticle thats always visible. It's not battery dependent but can be used as a red or green lite sight. For very low light hunting experienced early and late day. I recommend running the battery down some.

If this is legal shame on what your shooting at.

Several years ago I was also searching for a non magnifying scope to use in Idaho. The only scope available that I could find, was a 1X32 made by Hawk Optics. Unfortunately Hawk discontinued after market sales to the general public. However, they still manufactured that model, but exclusively for Mission crossbows. I then found out that it could not be purchased separately. It was only available as a scope included in a optional package, which included arrows, quiver, etc.. I did an extensive search of mission dealers and luckily found one that had a new scope as a take off from crossbow. That would be my suggestion to contact mission dealers, also utilize classified ads. I always thought that it was a strange regulation in Idaho, that a crossbow scope could be illuminated but had to be non magnifying. Good Luck.

You can still use a scope on a crossbow in Idaho but it cannot have magnification. I do not recall at the time which one it is, but someone posted the name of a 1X scope a while back. If it were me, I would look into one of those. That way you still get the benefit of better visibility during low light conditions, and you can always add an HHA Optimizer to it for range.

You also need to read regs and make sure you can have lighted as some states don't allow magnification nor light (battery powered). Red dots are lighted. There was an earlier post on this also. NM allows neither and I use a Trijicon RMR (natural illumination). Brace yourself as not cheap. The other ones on prior post may be less expensive.

Thanks for the info. I should have specified that I'm looking for something other than a 1x scope. It sounds like if you are handicapped the state will let you use a lighted sight so red dot is an option. I had hoped to find an open pin sight. They used to sell them on crossbows all the time but not any more. At 1x I can see the scope as being a little of a disadvantage. You have a reduced sight picture because you are looking through a scope but you don't get to make use of the typical magnification advantage brought on by using a scope. Its almost like it would make it more difficult. The only open sight I've been able to find is by bad river outdoors and I don't particularly care for that option. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas and it sounds like the answer is no.
