Looking into a Spot Hogg sight, any suggestions?

I have heard great feedback on Spot Hogg sights, but do not know what setup I should get. The fast eddie double pin peaked my interest. What's the difference between the regular and the XL, pros v cons? If not a fast eddie, what other options would you suggest?

Currently shooting a TRUglo single green dot where the brightness of the "pin" is adjustable. Bought the bow with the sight already on from a friend so I do not know what model it is. I enjoy it, but I would like the option of having different yardages without crowding the sight picture with 5 pins.

Thanks for any suggestions!

The “XL” is a fast Eddie on a dovetail slider.
personally I do not want the dovetail for hunting because there is a possibility for it to loosen up and move.
The Hogg father is a Tommy on a dovetail

the grinder and Hunter are fixed pin sights ie no slider pin. I think the difference between those two are the Hunter has 3rd axis adjustment but don’t quote me.

I just sold my grinder and picked up a and picked up a fast Eddie triple stack and very glad I did. Either way you can’t go wrong with a Spot Hogg.

As others have said the XL is a dovetail. I personally prefer the dovetail because you have options of moving the sight in or out or taking it off in a bow case if it sticks out too far to fit. You can get the peep alignment set exactly how you need to, which is extremely important with the MRT rings. I have never, nor anybody I know has ever had a dovetail come loose during a hunt or any other time. If it does, tighten it back up and go. But I have been working in this industry a very very long time, and I have never seen anyone have a dovetail come loose on a hunting setup. I have seen a couple guys have them come loose on a target sight, which are typically built a little different and have a lot more vibration than a hunting setup does and most likely they didn't snug up the set screw when they put their bow together since they typically get taken apart after they get shot every time. Then you look at how beefy the spot hogg bow mount and dovetails are and there is not going to be any flex to loosen anything up. I would not let the dovetail scare you. I use a dovetail for just about everything. I have also used the tommy as well and it really is one of my favorite hunting sights because of how compact it is. Plus it has the micro adjust so it's as precise as a target sight if you want to use it for 3d or other competition situations just like any high end target sight.

As for which sight I would recommend, I would recommend either a fast eddie xl or the tommy hog depending on whether you like the micro adjust elevation. For the housing I would go with either the double pin or the triple stack(not on the website yet) as you can shoot both as a single pin for 99% of your shooting, but you have extra pins for a reference for more than 1 distance. Whichever way you go, find a shop that has one on order or place your order soon if you are buying new. They are months backordered due to high demand. It's really hard to beat them for a high quality sight with a lifetime warranty built right here in the USA. They are also one of the few family owned companies that has not been bought out or sold which is pretty impressive since they have been building archery equipment since 1987.

Wow! great post and thank you for taking the time on this one. I am very knowledgeable in the firearm world, but I am a humble rookie in the archery department! I know that sight quality and function is very important with firearms and I assume this translates to archery, therefore, that is why I posted the question. I am glad that the two sights you mentioned are not only viable, but perhaps even better options than the fast eddie (non-XL). This allows me to have more options while shopping. I feel like the XL's and tommy hog sights are "easier" to find in the classifieds and private markets. I will continue researching, but if I find a good deal I will pull the trigger on one. Again, thank you for your feedback and experience with these optics.

I own 5 Spot Hogg sights. Three Hog Fathers and two, five pin Hogg-Its. All on a Dovetail. These are only going to come loose if you want them too. There is a plastic tip on both the Hogg Knob and the set screws, I think made of drelin. You get both options to attach the sight. I'll use the set screw version when hunting so there is room to mount my quiver.

I greatly prefer the dovetail. As mentioned before you have the option to remove to fit in a case, or just adjust the sight radius of your bow. I also like it because I can easily use a different sight setup on my bows.

For instance, I have .029 pins for my hunting sight. I happen to use VAPs. I'm currently using my hunting bow for a series of indoor 3d shoots. Instead of using my hunting arrows, I'm using some other VAPs setup for target, tunes the same, but I'm using .010 pins with a light for this.

I'm also about to setup a new bow I just ordered. I plan on shooting some 23 series arrows for both indoor and 3D, but also considering some VAPs and/or standard diameter arrows for some Field shoots. I'll be putting on one of the Spot Hogg Swap rests on it, so I'll set one up for 23's and then one up for VAPs, and I'll just have two sights setup.

I can easily switch between multiple sights depending on what I want to shoot. Large dot for indoor spots, maybe a lighted pin for 3D, etc.

Another story I'll relate to you, last week at league, a guy walked up to me to apologize because he knocked my bow over. I told him not to worry, I have a Spot Hogg sight, it isn't moving.

I love my Spot Hogg sights, I'm hoping I really like their rests as well.

This is great stuff! thank you!
I am definitely going to get a Spot Hogg sight, just need to figure out which one. I am leaning towards the fast eddie. Thank you for taking the time to respond to this post.

The fast eddie xl will be able to come in shorter than the regular fast eddie if you wanted it to. It will also go noticeably longer. I have never had any scenario out hunting where a fully extended dovetail sight was too long. The hunter and hoggit will go really close to the same on the short end, with the hoggit being able to extend further out. IMHO there is zero drawbacks to a dovetail sight and only benefits. The 1-2 ounce difference in weight is negligible in every aspect except for when you put the sight on the scale. The benefits and accuracy increase of being able to fine tune your sight length and peep to housing alignment will far outweigh the slighty increase in weight.

I have the regular and can say I love it. Switched from a single pin slider. Wanted something with smaller pins for longer shots and went with .010. Sight feels rock solid and once you dial the sight tapes in, thing is money. Definitely suggest giving it a try.

Ima big fan of the fast Eddie’s. Very simplistic. It comes down to if you like riser mounts or dove tails. I shoot the XL because I prefer dovetail mounts. For me I was all about the idea of a double pin so that is where I started but after a season or two I realized that I never ever used the second pin so my advice is just get whichever you can find the best deal on.

I’m currently shooting the Fast Eddie XL dual pin and am loving it, no pins blocking line of sight and still have that plus over an average single pin.

I love my Tommy Hogg. Solid mount, 3 different mount positions, micro adjust everything. It's a solid sight, and it holds the weight further back than the Fast Eddie or Hogg Father. It also has an enclosed gear, unlike the Eddie.
On my arrow setups the double pin lower pin is usually at 35-46 yards when main pin is at 20, and then when main pin is at 90 yards the bottom is about 100.

I didn't care for the Dovetail of the Fast Eddie XL, haven't tried the solid mount Fast Eddie, but it only has one mounting position and you can't micro adjust the elevation like you can with the Tommy.

So with a little more research I to am considering Spot Hogg for the new bow.
Anyone with experience using HHA optimizer lite? Would anyone say the the Fast Eddie XL
be a noticeable upgrade other than aligning the peep sight? Spend once cry once
I only deer hunt. So my practice shots are 60 and in.
You can find used Spot Hoggs for good prices on the classifieds here or on eBay. I like the Tommy Hogg better than the Fast Eddie, personally. I hunt whitetails with a double pin model and set it to 20/36 and can easily gap any shots from 0-40 yards. I like to practice out to 100 yards so a slider is a good option for me.

If you aren't planning to shoot past 60 yards and mainly hunt I'm not sure a slider would be the best choice. A fixed 5 pin would set you up out to 60 yards, but I don't care for the cluttered sight picture of a 5 pin.

A great choice would be an Option 4s. It gives you three fixed pins when you want them but can be rotated out of the way, and a moving 4th pin that can dial down to longer range. I just got one to try out after hunting season.

I really like the big wheel on the Spot Hoggs. The good thing about buying a used Spot Hogg is if you don't like it you can sell it for the same as you paid for it.

You'd probably like a double pin model. I like having that single pin sight picture but also having that extra pin just in case.
