Build us a 3.5 lb crossbow with (prefer compound due to smaller width) limb bolts that allow the bow to be relaxed enough for string changing in the field AND with a quiver bracket that will fit on the top of the limbs running parallel to the barrel. PLEASE! I'm 63 and 8 lb crossbows are killing me.

What color is the sky on your world. Maybe using carbon fiber and titanium metals, the bow may come with a built in bow press. You could reach a few lbs lighter an be paying $4 to $5 thousand for a xbow. Don't think they sell too many. I'm also 63 and disabled, and I don't worry about 9" more width with my Vixen.

Moon,
Your idea is great, but not very practical. You would not like to shoot a 3.5 lb bow that performs like todays crossbows. It would not shoot well. We (TenPoint) are headed in the right direction with a couple models this year, but something 3.5 lbs would send arrows all over the place and the materials would cost a fortune. Like Digger said, it would have to be techy carbons and Titanium.$$$$$$$

A lightweight rifle with a scope is in the 3lb range. An xbow has a lot more hardware to it than a gun - throw in quiver and arrows too. Hardware = weight even if it's aluminum. I wish too. Maybe one day prices will come down on hi-tech materials.
This is why you teach young people to hunt - to help with the load! Grab a grandkid and put 'em to work.

BigBirdVA: I hope that was a typo when you said 3lb range, perhaps you meant 8lbs. I like heavier weapons because they help steady my aim, and give me a workout:wink:

Moon: Excals are about 6lbs. The 10pt slider is 7lb.

Sometimes fingers and thoughts do not jive. And if spell checker doesn't get it...... well you know!
