Hey all,

One of my buddies just got a new Switchback. He brought it down to let me and another friend check it out. It is a really nice bow. I couldn't shoot it because his poundage is too high for me, but my other buddy did shoot it a few times. Both of them talked about how smooth the bow was and how it felt very comfortable at full draw. They also raved about the performance. I don't think I heard a single negative thing about it the whole time he was there. He has hunted with MANY bows over the years and he said this bow is the best bow he has ever shot.

As you can imagine that new Mathews has a couple of us thinking about new bows. The problem is that not all of us can afford $800 or more for a new set up. That is why I am here asking questions, I would like to learn more about other bows that are available that would be similar to the Switchback in performance.

What other bows do you know of that are on the same performace level as the Switchback? What bows would you recommend to one of YOUR friends to check out?

Thanks for the help and your time.

If I were recommending to my friends that did not want to spend $800, here is my list.

Jennings Strike or Reliant
and the best bow I have found in the $400 class...The Martin Bengal.

Having discovered and shot these bows I can see no honest reason to recommend anything more to anyone. They are fantastic little bows at an even better price.

And, yes, I own a Mathews. My Ovation is one of the best target bows I have owned.

second hand Switchback from a trusted source.

I agree with Limey. Find a trusted member here on AT and get yourself a heck of a deal on a Switchie. In my opinion, the Switchie is one of the best bows ever built, especially for hunting, hands down. The closest thing I have shot or seen to it to date (besides another Mathews) is the Bowtech Tribute. If the Tribute was a little smoother I just might have bought it

The SWB is shock free, quiet, vibration free and just OH SO SMOOTH; and if tuned and set up properly, she can be a real barn burner

I agree

I would love a new bow every year, but the prices are crazy. I just wait a year and buy a bow that is only a couple months old for almost half the price! The bad news is you don't get a keychain or hat...lol

Fred Bear bows (the new ones) are showing up on the range and are logging some top scores in the hands of proficient shooters. For the money I have always liked Parker and Martin

Not taking anything away from the swithchback, I bought a Stealth and shot it next to the SBXT and liked it better. It wasn't by much just a few things. You can get your hands on one for anywhere between $400-$600. Fast, smooth, forgiving, and shock free!!! Probably the best bow I have ever owned or shot IMO!!!

I second the ROSS, the XT and the CR331 are VERY simillar in looks, specs, and quality (the ROSS might actually be a hair nicer!). You'll save a few hundred dollars by going to the Ross and it's just as nice, if not nicer than the Mathews. Keep in mind that this is coming from a guy that has owned 6 different Mathews--and I still have one.

I bought a second hand SB for 500 on AT, next I would look at the Fred Bear Line, they are making some nice looking bows for less $, also there are alot of great used bows that perform very well, but it is hard to beat a SB for smoothness and speed IMO.I would spend the extra $ and get what you want, no matter what it is. I have bought to many things that I end up not liking to save $ and getting what I wanted later, then losing alot of money:)
