Max-1 Camo run its course?

Now that bow season is over here, I'm looking at updating from the cotton stuff I have to maybe a poly type material that's quick drying. I can't afford the top stuff like sitka, etc though. Max-1 has been a good pattern for me, and I would like to continue wearing it. It looks like first lite has some offerings still in max-1, but it appears like the new pieces aren't being offered in it. My comment is that I can't really find max-1 camo in stuff other than cotton. Has the pattern played itself out and the quality manufacturers don't see it as a profitable pattern anymore? What do you guys think?

I think it's two things. One, Realtree came out with a new pattern called Max-1 XT. They say it's supposed to have less green in it and more neutral tones to work better in more environments. This makes me think regular Max1 has been discontinued and therefore no manufactures have been making their products in it. And maybe max 1 XT hasn't been out long enough for them to even start making their clothing in it yet. Secondly, I think there's a lot of appeal to newer patterns like Sitka, kryptek, Kuiu, etc. because the patterns are new and different, but also because of the technical performance of clothing those companies offer.

It's to bad you didn't make this decision last year, you could've gotten an entire setup of Core 4 Element gear in Max 1 when they went out of business and all their retailers had it on closeout.

The only suggestion I have is to atleast try buy I high quality 4 way stretch poly paint. I promise you will not regret spending the extra money. For me bought my first high end gear this year. It was a tuff pill to swallow. I keep saying to myself it can not be worth the extra cost but it definitely was after the fact. I ended with Sitka Ascent pants and I used there poly base layer shirt as shirt. This was not to badly priced bought on Amazon. If I could have found Firstlight gear in my size around here to try on I would have gone with them but I am happy with the few basic pieces of Sitka I got. I can say how nice it was not sweating like crazy and staying wet all day while hike in September. Also beening a bigger guy when stepping up onto things or squatting my old camo would limit me all the time. The four way stretch works miracles in this aspect.

I think your putting too much faith in camo patterns, I've wore a number of different patterns over the yrs. and one has never been more effective than all the others. The only pattern that I've seen
have an effect is the pants and shirt my wife made for me this yr. The shirt is made from material that almost the same color as an elk's body. The pants from the knees up has the same color and
from the knees down a dark brown to resemble the color of an elk's legs. Didn't get to try it on elk sad to say but on deer it had a noticeable effect. When they seen me they would just stand there and
stare at me then go back to feeding. Even when I cow called or bugled they would just look up at me then back to feeding. A lot more testing is needed on this but if anyone tries this idea
PLEASE DON'T DO IT IN GUN SEASON, there is a good chance you might get shot at or worse shot.

I would say it's just a coincidence seeing as deer are color blind. Any pattern that breaks up your silhouette will work the color doesn't matter. If you're more confident in one pattern than in another go for it. Don't mess with a good thing. I like the Kuiu Vias pattern because I like it. But other patterns like Kuiu Verde, First Lite, Sitka, Asat, Predator are all good as they focus on breaking up your outline and help you blend in.

as a guy still using Marine Corps issued camo to hunt in and now stepping up and buying new army issue camo to hunt in..... I don't think it much matters. It's whatever you like and whatever you feel gives you good protection from whatever your hunting in. Deer won't know the difference if you're wearing multicam or kryptek.

You gotta start watching the classifieds board at rokslide. Be flexible, mix and match patterns and you can have top end merino and synthetic gear cheap. I have purchased countless items this way.

The age old camo debate....I don't think camo is a big deal on a lot of these hunts- some its crucial. Really when you think about it, in most cases its the movement animals spot unless you are silhouetted.

I end up wearing solid OD green Pants on some of my elk hunts.....i don't think camo is a big deal there as I've had them walk by at arms length wearing solid colors.

Now on something like hard hunted public WIHA Kansas whitetail ground.....those deer will pick you off if you are a blob in a tree....so there I think your Camo...and especially setting your stand with a backdrop is crucial.
