Meat grinder: LEM vs. Meat vs. Cabelas

I've had a table top grinder 800 watt grinder for 17 years. It has been perfect except for this weekend when it stopped working...started back up but i'm concerned that this is just the beginning of the end for that grinder. I have ground close to 50 animals in the last 17 years. Now I was considering the Cabelas industrial .5 meat grinder but then I read the reviews. To many negatives to buy. I read the LEM dual grind as well as the MEAT dual grinder. I am leaning towards the LEM but I want to make sure I make the right purchase.

I have had a LEM #8 Big Bite going on 5 or 6 years. Between my son, me and some hunting buddies we have put probably 18-20 deer through it with zero issues. Some of the best money I ever spent. I would buy another in a heartbeat.

Out of the 2 I'd go with LEM.
Not the dual grind.

For these threads on meat grinders.
All I have to say is think and buy once. These things last a long time.
So think about what you would do now and 20 years down the road.
LEM will be around.
Will Cabelas change?

why wouldn't you do the dual grind?

Well first I haven't read any first hand reports.
But the other thing is it is not a "double" or "second grind.
So if I want to do that with a 1/4 then a 1/8 I'm stuck with more plates and knives that are more expensive.
This dual cut the first plate the openings are rather large. Its a cut, not any kind of grind before it goes to the next plate.
And we hope both plates properly seat with the double edged blade.
Will it create a jamming issue or hard re-starts of there is meat and uncut meat in the plates?

When I talk about more plates and knives is that I will only use a knife with a particular plate. They wear together. So using the first cut stage plate interchangeable is a no no for me.

I don't have a number of pounds but let's say quite a bit. I like that it comes with a new grinding horn that is specifically made for the dual grinding blade I just with that if accepted my existing tray/hopper. The plastic green bowl that you get really slows thing up. Its tippy and small. I dont like how it sits on top unsupported. Still exponentially faster then grinding twice the old way. That being said it's still worth the purchase but there is room for improvement.

LEM, I like their stuff. They have a very solid product. I don't have any experience with MEAT but if you buy a LEM locally at least you can return it if there are issues.

I wouldn't give Cabelas a dime ever again I don't care how good the product is.

I also have the LEM…its been great.
I probably trim more silver skin than the avg guy…the machine will handle it but it sometimes gets all wrapped up in the cutting blades….plus I dont like it in my grind anyway….

I have a #12 Cabelas I got at the bass pro outlet in Springfield for $99. It's a quality grinder and I feel like I stole it. I do know it's private labeled and I think by Weston. With a little bit of research I'm certain I could figure out the manufacturer and get parts if I ever need to.
