Has anybody ever made a target using a old memory foam mattress for the innards? Or would it be a little to soft and spongy to hold an arrow?

I use foam from a boat dock as a backstop. It stops everything.

I just got done trying carpet pad in a third hand target build and the arrows practically went right thru the target. it is the kind of pad that looks like recycled bits of foam and I ripped it into 4-8" chunks. it didn't work worth a cr--

I couple weeks ago I saw a home made carpet padding target that used it, but it used 8 lb padding, not sure of the thickness. Guy worked for a carpet outfit. Similar to the layered foam block targets. Worked pretty good. I'd imagine you'd need a way to compact that stuff pretty good if you were tossing it into a third hand target.

Was thinking of doing a third hand type of target by cutting the mattress in half and stacking them together tightly and shooting at the flat side of it. Maybe once compressed together tightly it would have the stopping power? I know it would be a little heavy, but those little diy projects that make you go hmmmm...lol
