I am looking for a new pair of rubber boots and I can't decide which ones I want. I want a boot for bow hunting in Iowa from October to late November or so. Which of these boots would you guys recommend and why?
Thanks!

i am not from Iowa but it does get somewhat cold here in TN. The MAX are only good when it at 40degrees and below, if it is any warmer then that your feet will sweat to death. The max will be warmer when its cold but you can wear the sports in a wider range of temps.

I have been wearing the woody max for the last 4 years now. If you need to walk far in them on warmer days, your feet will definitely be sweating. There were times when I've taken a mid-day walk to do a bit of in season scouting and I thought my feet were going to melt. It's just like anything else though. It's a pain in the butt dressing for early morning temps when it's right around freezing, only to have it warm up to mid 60s by 11 am.

I think its a toss up either way you go. The sport might be better for warmer weather since your feet won't sweat as much, but I think the woody max will get you down to cooler temps.

I've got the same problem ... I can't decide between the max or the sport ... I'm leaning more towards the sport, I'm from WV and it very rarely gets below -20. Plus I figure I can always put on thicker socks, and my feet sweat easily anyways so I think the sport are probably more suited for me ... and they're cheaper!

I live in SW VA and have the woody sports. They seem be work good for me. My feet often do get hot but if it is cold I wear a wool sock and change out once the temps. raise in mid day. I always pack a change of socks warm or cold.

I have been wearing the Woody Sports for the last two years and I think they do a great job. I just wear a warmer set of socks when the temperature really starts to drop and I have never had an issue with my feet being cold. I highly recommend.

if its -20 my house slippers will be keeping me warm...........
Good call lol

Thanks guys for the reassurance I'm sure it'll be the right choice.

boarman1, I have a trip to Cabelas planned on Sunday I am hoping to try boots on and compare. Not sure what your prices are but if they're better than Cabelas shoot me a PM and we'll talk.

I have worn the fieldblazers the last three years and I am finally switching because the outsole is not that great for climbing a tree.

Anyhow... I am going with the wetlands.
They are the same as the sport minus the camo.
If you buy from boarman, they are only $115 shipped.

That's my .02 and what/who I will be buyin from this week.

I looked at some reviews on the Fieldblazers and a lot of people hated the tread design on the bottom. The Fieldblazers I saw had camo on them. Cabelas also has the Fieldblazers $89.

I have both. The Woody Max is a little warmer than the Woody Sport. Both are good boots but I wear my Sports more than the Maxs. I have also had the Wetlands which is a better winter boot than both. I used the Wetlands more in Jan. and Feb. during rabbit season, but during Oct-Dec. (Bow season), my Woody Sports were on my feet more than the others.

I have a pair of Woody sports that I am selling. I bought them in the start of turkey season and wanted them for walking through the wet morning grass. I purchased a size 11. When I got them in the mail I put them on and went out hunting without walking around the house firse, mistake.
Anyway. I am selling My MUCK WOODY SPORTS, SIZE 11 for 109 TYD. I am going to get a pair of 10's!

I actully sell Muck boots up here in Northern NH where it gets real cold come December. The Woody Max is definetely a better choice. The new Woody ex pro is the top of the line..The key is to not be wearing cotton socks. Wear either wool or polyester and you should be good to go!! Good luck..

I also just bought the Woody EX Pros, what's the verdict. I read in certain sites and reviews that the boots aren't as warm as they claim to be. Does anyone have any experience with the different Muck boots that can correlate them to a level of Thinsulate, e.g. 1000gram, 1500gram, 2000gram, etc? I'll be using them in the Upper Penninsula of MI and want to know what to expect.

I have a pair of the Muck chore boots for around the house and for upland hunting. I wear Bog boots for deer hunting. Their cheapest set of Bogs go down to -40 degrees. If its really cold I wear some brand of socks called Wigwam. Best socks I have ever had. I believe it's the socks you wear and not all the boot. IMO

I have the Woody Max and I wear them with a wool sock and liner. My feet get cold after a few hours if the temps are cold. For example, if I hit the stand and it's 27 degrees out and only gets to mid 30's a few hours later my feet start getting cold. I do have a pair of Sorels for the colder days, but these are good for October and mid November hunting for me.
