Howdy everyone. I am looking to change broadheads this season and these are the two I have been looking at. I see a lot of both good and bad comments on the standard 3-blade Trocar but I don't see a lot of info on the HB model.

Has anyone tested this HB? Do you think these will open in flight? I don't see where this model has a practice broadhead. That being the case do these tear up block style targets real bad?

I shoot a pretty slow arrow speed (I think) so should I go with a fixed or would something like the HB that has a little of both be a winner? Thanks for any info!!

I can't speak to the HB version but I have been using the Trocar 3-blade since it came out. It is a very solid broadhead. I had been shooting the MX-3 models and wanted to try and improve my long range accuracy so I switched to Rage Hypodermics. They immediately improved my groups and hid whatever tuning issue I might have had. After hitting a big buck a little high in the shoulder and watching him run around with the Rage, never finding him the next morning I went back to a fixed blade. Tried the Trocar and I was amazed at how accurate they were. I didn't have to make hardly any adjustments from the Rage. After spending time performing various tunings I am able to get the Trocar within a 4 inch circle out to 60 yards. I shoot a 62lb bow and practice a few months before hunting season so I am by no means a superior shot. I do feel like the Trocar has improved my confidence past 40 yards even though I probably would never shoot past 40. It helpd me practice and feel deadly at 30 yards and in.

They do eat up the targets so what I did was buy an extra pack to use as dedicated practice heads so I never worry about dulling the blades. After I got the bow broadhead tuned, I just shoot the points and then 5-6 shots with the broadheads. If they hit spot on I go back to points and if not I evaluate what is off.

Why switch if the standard 3 blade have been working? I shoot the standard 3 blade and until they stop doing what I want them to do I will keep shooting them.

If your arrow speed is pretty slow you will increase your chances by shooting the standard 3 blade versus a mechanical blade, even if it is a hybrid like the HB.

If you are looking for better penetration from a slow arrow then it would be best to go with a cut on contact head like the Phantom series (staying with Muzzy).

If you want to change just for the sake of change then I do like the HB series. I have only ever shot one. I was on a pig hunt and another hunter let me try one of his. I was going to shoot a pig with it but I had a raccoon come in and start messing with the feeder, so I shot him with it. It definitely did the job on the big boar ****, but it hit a feeder leg on the way out and destroyed the broadhead.

Both fly great and are very quiet in flight, right with field points as well out to 70 yards even at 330 fps out of my evil scoped devil shoulder bow ;) Neither have shown any damage from a block target. I wont be shooting the HB out of my vertical bows though as I'm only shooting 50 lbs at 27" draw.

Thanks for this info. I think I will try the fixed Trocar and see if I can fine tune them if I have a problem. Deer I wouldn't shoot past 40 yds +/- but we are starting to have wild pigs on our property and their days are numbered regardless of distance :). I feel confident out to 60 yards with my field points so hopefully I will be able to do the same on the fixed blades.

I'm with you op on just wanting to switch things up this year. I've shot G5 t3s for years and have had phenomenal success with them. But something moved me towards a fixed head. Tested out the Slick tricks and muzzy trocars. Both flew phenomal, the furthest I shot them was 60 and they both grouped right with my FPs. I decided I'm going with the trocars. Anxious to put one thru a deer and see the results.

I finally got to shoot with these Trocar fixed blades this weekend I couldn't group at all. I was shooting my Halon 6 that was paper tuned and it looked good. I have a 26 1/2" DL, shooting a GT 340 arrow, 68 lb., all seems to be ok? I aligned the blades with my fletching that have a right helical on them. I was shooting the broad heads high and to the left of my field points. I tried adjusting the rest by moving toward the field point but I only could get them grouping within a few inches of each other at 20 yds. As I moved back to 30, and then 40 yards that group got BIG? Please help me!!

If you don't have a spine tester you can take the arrows that are not grouping with the others with broad heads and rotate the nock a 1/4 of a turn then shoot again to see if it helps with it grouping with others arrows repeat until you get the best results I had to do the same last year with my fixed heads.

I was debating on the trocar's or the old 3 blades this year. The trocar's flew great for me. Hissed a little in flight not a big deal IMO. Trocar's are good just not as good as the old 3 blade IMO (lots will disagree).
