My New Bow Madness 34

Well, I've been shooting Hoyt's for the last 8 years or so and I still love them, but I bought my first new PSE in about 20 years. 2016 Bow Madness 34 set at 59lbs. I'm shooting about 5 FPS faster with about 5 lbs less draw weight than my CRX 32. I changed the strings to Winners Choice and I'm still trying to fine tune it. It seems like my Hoyt's were a little easier to tune, but that could just be that I'm used to working with them. The orange target pic was 12 consecutive shots at 10 yards just to settle the strings and try to get a feel for the bow. So far, so good! If anybody has any Bow Madness 34 tuning secrets they wanna share, feel free!

Thanks guys. And rtj, I've never done yoke tuning before. I saw the tuning sticky at the top of the PSE page, so I'm gonna follow that. It makes a lot of sense. I've always adjusted the rest with walkback tuning, but I see the wisdom in the yoke tuning. Looking forward to really getting her dialed in.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give that a try. Do you advise having the top cam slightly ahead of the bottom cam on the BM34 like I saw advised on other PSE hybrids?

I have both my cams on my madness 32 in sync. IMO some people run on the edge of a light arrow to get the speed back up. So adjusting the cam timing tweaks the way the arrow leaves the string. Also, adjusting the CAM timing can give you the tip forward or bottom kick after the shot. I prefer mine dead hold no kick bottom or top over. I have never had to do it. I run a 388 grain arrow goldtip pro 340 at 65lbs. That is for elk, deer, antelope and the occasional prairie dog, jack rabbit and coyote for fun.
Your choice you can play with it and see how you like it. Again just my ever humble opinions [emoji16][emoji56]

I love the BM34s, heck I've had 5 of them!! And bought another today :) All of the ones I've had and all the BM32 and BM34s we've sold have tuned super simple. A few twists in the yoke and they were good. The only thing I did on mine was move the cable rod in a bit. I run a 10.8 B Stinger kit on mine with around 8oz on back and 3 on front. It makes it hold great!! I'm blown away at a 34in ATA bow at that price point with that speed. Pretty dang sweet!

Eliteonly, was that your BM34 review video on youtube I watched about 5 times? As far as the tuning, it seems as though it takes a lot more twists in the string and cables to notice timing adjustments than on my Hoyt's. When I put the new string and cables on, I was about 1/4" long on ATA, 1/4" long on DL, 1/8" short on BH and maxed out at 57.5lbs. It took a lot of twisting to get things back in spec. Right now I have the top cam ahead of my bottom cam by an 1/8" or so according to the timing marks on the cams. Am I correct in assuming that since there is no cam stop on the top cam and it functions much like an idler wheel, that the timing marks on the cams are the only way to gauge the cam synchronicity? Thanks again to both of you guys for the help, it is greatly appreciated.

I don't think they missed the boat. I believe it was a marketing ploy to push the decree HD. The BM and the Decree HD feel almost the same. The decree has no hump into the wall and BM has a slight one. Other than that IMO they feel exactly the same.

Bingo! I think you nailed it, and I figured the exact same thing with regards to PSE's discontinuation in 2016 of the Source. The Source was a bow that consistently got great reviews and the praise of its owners. Its 7 inch brace height and HD cam was the reason some people preferred it over the Buckmaster. It was at the top of my list for a new bow this year. Now that it is gone, there is nothing else that in the PSE product line that I want to pay for with the possible exception of the Buckmaster 34, but I have trouble getting beyond the 6 inch brace height.

Forgive my Freudian slip in the previous post. I meant to say Bow Madness, not Buckmaster. I once had a Jennings Buckmaster PWC (a compound with recurve limbs) and I guess I never got it off the head. Was not a great bow that ended up being stolen from me.

Up to the top. I'm working on setting up my BM34 and am having some problems. 1st setup was good.. bullet hole right from the start. Wanted a little more valley and draw length felt a bit short for me so I made a couple of changes. First twisted up cable to advance top cam so both cams are hitting at the same time. Increased DL to 30", re-tied peep and put new Dloop on. Shot thru paper and had a low tear. Brought up rest and cleaned up the tear. Hit the range and bareshafts are hitting the same point of impact as fletched however seem to be nock left. Added a twist to left yoke and took a twist out of the right. Will hit the range on Thursday. Couple of questions:
Cam lean- obviously some is ok. Are you better off trying to lay an arrow across the cam to assess lean and make changes to the yoke to address or would you rather eye it and bareshaft tune to find your results?
Secondly advancing the top cam. Since there is no stop I am basically eyeing it up by twisting up the cables. Am I correct by having the top cam being a touch ahead?
Thanks,
UT

High tear= moved rest up.

Wanted to add that I might be underspined a touch. Shooting Gold Tip Kinetics 400 spine at 65 lbs, 28.25" draw.

Thanks,
