Going to NDakota for Whitetail's for opening week. I'm going to hunt in units2g1, and 2G2. I was wondering what areas or fields I should look for to hunt. I have never been here before. Any info for scounting would be appreciated. Looking for ideas, on areas to look into for my scouting. I only will have one day to scout. thanks mike

Welcome

Good luck to you. I hunt on my dad's farm in 2A which is just east of where you will be. I hunt wooded areas near corn or soybean fields on good trails. Areas around water are always good too (cat tail sloughs). Good luck!

Unless it's different this year in other parts of the state, but here in north central ND there is just about zero skeeters this season. I guess I don't know about the area your going to hunt. I don't know why it is, or if I have just been lucky, but where I hunt, I have seen more super big bucks than all the other years combined. Hope where your going you have simular sightings too. Wish I could help you out, but I don't know anything much about the area you are going to hunt. Snoopy is right though, pea's, flowers, corn, ect. are great starting points. These early season deer deffinately put on the feed bag, and finding where they are eating is a big step in ambushing one. Again, good luck to you!!

Mike, All the advise above is good. Keep your eyes on alfalfa fields. Deer will be on them heavy for the first month and should stick to a routine. If you can get into the river valley you will have a great start. Get a PLOTS map so you won't be soley dependant on permission (ND game and fish web site). I don't believe the bugs will bother you since it's been so dry. Hope this helps, shoot me any questions that you run into. Good Luck
