Well I ship off to basic training 2 days after bow season starts so I want to greater my chances. I did some scouting today at this new club I'm part of with some church friends. I found some tracks followed them and it led to a game trail. Followed that and it lead to a pond/water source. I then found more tracks and droppings. I would like to put a feeder about 80 yards up the trail from the pond where it opens up a bit. About 30 yards off trail is a dirt mound covered in vines I can use for cover. What do you guys think? Would that be a good idea to set up so close to the water source? Or would it even matter?

Set up a place to sit on either side so your covered for any wind direction (except directly to the water source of course). And yes, if your going to hunt water, early season when it's warm is a great time to do it. Just don't keep visiting the area before the season or the deer will change their pattern to avoid you
