New to forum and could use some opinions and ideas. So first thank you! I shot a buck yesterday at 9:55 @ 40yds. He was broadside walking right to left. He stopped and I let the arrow go as he stepped left. The lighted knock disappeared and i thought pass through. NOPE! I got down about an hour later to see no arrow. He ran back where he came from directly into shin deep water down an old fence line. Had blood to 80yds on anything that could show it. Bright red. After that he hit open area all water. To his left is knee deep for 1/2 mile straight is ankle to dry in 250yds to right is dry within 50 yds. Went grabbed lunch came back about 4:00 searched until dark with no other sign found. We know he came from what would be straight early that morning. I'm guessing he headed back that way rather the deeper water. I could bot go back today due to work but the land owner was watching and said he didn't see any buzzards. I will be there tomorrow and walking i owe the buck this. Any other thoughts or ideas would be appreciated

Do you have any idea where the arrow impacted? If it was bright red blood and not in the brisket, it should not have stopped so abruptly other than he went down or the water washed away the spoor. Did you look for the buck floating in the water or just an antler or ear sticking out? Any brushy spots in that area? Water definitely complicates things, but you just have to be methodical and cover everywhere you can...even if it requires hip boots.

Shot looked like it entered half way up body just behind left shoulder. Shooting from buddy ladder stand. Yes my buddy and I grid searched the water left side about 250yds by 250yds there is grass in the water he would have had to go through if he went that way and there was no sign , blood, bent, pushed over etc. anywhere on it.
