Hello.

My daughter (9 years old) was introduced to archery at summer camp. She's decided she wants to be an archer...Am I saying that right? Anyway, I shot a bow one summer in Boy Scouts 25 years ago, so I'm a noob. I joined here for insight and support. I hope to be an experienced contributor some day.

We don't have an Archery in School program, but we do have a local indoor archery range, Archery Excellence. We shot the Genesis bows there together and I've decided to buy one for her.

I just purchased a used compound bow for myself and will be visiting a local bow shop to get us both set up.

I'll likely be lurking and learning for a while, but will try not to be a stranger.

Thanks, Jared.

Welcome. I took my two year old with me the other day to get arrows. She really enjoyed looking at the boys. I grabbed a purple genesis off the rack and showed it to her and she just said "Wow". I also had to pry my arrow out of her hand to get the tech to match it.

Welcome to the forum.
Never draw a bow without an arrow on it , it could slip from your grip and cause what is called a dry fire.
There's a lot of energy stored in a drawn bow. With no arrow that energy goes totally into the bow. Could cause cracking limbs and bent cams.
Thanks! Of the many mistakes we'll likely make, hope this isn't one of them.

Well, she's been upgraded from the Genesis to a Bear Royale. A few hours after opening her new bow, she suffered a serious injury to her right forearm/wrist, so we're in a holding pattern until that heals. She's excited to get outfitted with the new set up.
We are blessed that the laceration missed all arteries and tendons. The ER Doc was amazing and my girls are TOUGH, so a full recovery shouldn't take too long.
