Hope this is in the right forum. Have any of you ever hunted New Mexico for Elk? If so which unit did you draw? What was your experience and was it what you expected? Thanks!

Good luck going every year. They do not have over the counter tags and starting this year if you draw a tag you are not eligible the following year.

I went last year in unit 23, We had a great time overall, but didnt really see much for elk. I would stick with the better units as stated above. We drove through unit 15 after dark on our way home and saw 3 times as many elk as we did while actually hunting.

The biggest problem is being able to go often enough to learn the unit. A one week hunt in another state is just a crap shoot the first year.

I believe if you draw a HD or quality unit tag one year can't apply for HD or quality the next year.

no.....the most difficult thing is drawing that NR elk tag.

I live in New Mexico and units 15 34 and 36 are great. They changed that rule if u draw a Q or HD u can't draw next year. U can.
